If you have questions about what the Stanley numbers are, you can
look the planes up on Blood&Gore:

http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan0.htm

Sometimes, emails to/from me are vectored to some cyber black
hole, never reaching their destination. I answer all emails, so if
you haven't heard from me, your/my email is likely having high tea
in said black hole, never to be heard from, so please try again.

If there is anything in particular that you're after, do ping me
as there is a lot of stuff here that isn't on the list; the list
just represents a snapshot of the previous month's haul with none
of the stuff having appeared on a previous list. I like to keep
things fresh here.

Please email me prior to sending money so that you can be sure
the item is still up for grabs. Also, prices do not include shipping,
which is the amount that it takes to go from me to you via the US
Post Office.

This list goes out to many people, normally on the first Monday
of the month (unless otherwise noted above). So, if you see something
you want, it's the quickest finger on the trigger that wins the duel.

Some folks become upset that they miss out on a tool. I wish I had
lots of this stuff many times over so I can satisfy the demand, but
that is normally not the case. Some of it does have duplicates here,
and if so, I will state that in my reply to you.

Also, due to the nature of selling over the wires, tools are sold
on a first come, first serve basis. The first person to say "I'll
take it", gets it. I have to operate this way as some will take a
few days to get back to me with their interest in a particular item,
and it's unfair to keep others waiting who are willing to buy the
item immediately.

I reserve the right to correct typographical errors after the list
goes out. I rarely make them, but when I do they can be major ones.

If you're the kind of person who puts a straightedge to the sole of
a #40, to check it for flatness, or who tosses a plane on a scale to
weight it against what it states in the Stanley catalogs, you'll need
to take your business elsewhere. I'll wish you luck finding perfection
in something that was never made, nor intended to be, perfect. You guys
know who you are, and it's best for both of us that our paths not cross.

Lastly, and I don't like to mention this, but if you tell me that
money is on the way for something you want, and you never make good
on it, we won't be doing business in the future. It's unfair, actually
downright discourteous, to others who want the same thing, and I tell
them it's sold. Pull this on me, and you're exorcised from the list.
Sorry, but I don't tolerate this behavior well at all.

Don't forget the cool new tools that I'm making - a jazzy layout
knife being used by professionals (made the cover of Feb.1998 FWW!),
a detachable block plane handle designed to fit your standard pitch
block planes, a killer Robinson's Improved Patent sliding bevel, a
tilting jaw for your Emmert's vise, and the finest bench plane in
production today, the Bed Rock #601. You can see it all at:

Remember, you don't have to be a connoisseur (did I spell that
correctly) to shop here. You can be a wirehead, a metalhead, a zipper-
head, a propellerhead, a deadhead, a cokehead, or even a knuckle
dragging oaf, just like me, to shop here, as long as your dinero is
green.

Thanks for shopping, and remember that no letters or words were
injured when writing this list...

is; a worker; top:

original parts and in nearly new condition (image fails to
capture its true condition), this ca.1880 survivor was used
just a few times after its owner stamped his initials in
the side; a very difficult vintage to find for this model,
it has the excelsior casting, patent dates on iron and
lateral lever; superficial rust will easily clean; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t94.jpg $115.00
ST62 A.Stanley #12 two foot, two-fold fully brass bound boxwood
rule; from the earliest production of the mid-1850's, this
mark is coveted by Stanley collectors as it's so difficult
to find in any condition; this one is overall nice, but
with condition problems; the hing must have worn so a copper
rivet was inserted and peened over, the rule has a crack
(right after the Stanley name), this veteran was used and
nothing was going to stop it from its intended use; asterisk
marks decorate the maker's name; far from a dog and far from
what better examples fetch; bottom:

of parts as most planes are lacking the proper ones; no
damage, japanning roughly 50%; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t97.jpg $70.00
ST65 #148 match plane; looks unused, it's the same plane as the
#48 used to cut the common tongue and groove joint, it must
have been easier to make such a plane this way as there are
fewer parts than the #48 has; only in need of a honing, the
original box (with half label) is tossed in for free; top
left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t98.jpg $115.00
ST66 #18 knuckle joint block plane; as found, dirty, free of
damage, it will clean well; a better plane than the #9 1/2
as the lever cap has a better positive action and fits more
comfortably in the hand; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t98.jpg $45.00
ST67 Earlier #984 corner brace, probably the first Stanley pro-

http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t109.jpg $65.00
ST71 #39 1/2 dado plane; all original parts and no damage, just
dirty and in need of a scrubbing to make a fine worker;
bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t109.jpg $90.00
ST72 #603C corrugated Bed Rock smoothing plane; ca.WWI production
with V-logo iron and BED ROCK embossed lever cap; dirty, it
will clean to make a sound worker; tote was nicely glued
after a split in it developed; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t110.jpg $145.00
ST73 Type 2 #7 jointer; as nice an example this early 1870's
plane can be, it's been in my workbench drawer for some
30 years; all original parts, no damage, the image fails
to capture its true condition; the first New Britain
production right after Stanley Rule & Level bought out
Leonard Bailey; my favorite era of Stanley's output; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t114.jpg $390.00
ST74 Pair of #67 Universal shaves; as found, in sound worker
condition, one with a bit of superficial rust; one with
a flat sole, other with round, neither with the fence,
one of those will eventually show up, you can then swap
it among the two; handles can be repositioned to be at
90 degrees to each other, this shave can do nearly all
jobs, hence the name; bottom two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t114.jpg $95.00
ST75 #604 1/2 oversize smoothing plane; with "BED ROCK" lever
cap, free of damage, with some shavings in the throat from
when the boy grabbed it to use, it has a UK Stanley iron,
I find most of these planes in England and nearly all have
the same iron, which offers a clue that they are superior
to the US ones (at least the English blokes thought so);
no damage, a solid worker; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t115.jpg $285.00
ST76 #55 combination plane; a bargain worker with all the vital
parts, good labels on box, some minor superficial rust here
and there, that will easily clean:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t118.jpg $285.00

WP1 Narrower panel raiser, configured as a molding plane, by
Robinson/London; fully boxed sole to cut the classic
profile, a nicker iron severs the wood for a crisp field;
free of alteration, it saw limited use, the panel is
about 1/2" wide; expected bang marks on heel, no owner
marks, and rather uncommon; boxing at toe is loose, a
drop of glue will remedy that; shows usual bang marks on
heel from backing off wedge; top left:

http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t12a.jpg $235.00
WP2 Extra complex profile by Mutter; cuts 1/2" deep by 3/4"
wide, it's free of alteration and is in extra fine shape
for a late 18th century English plane; lots of twists and
turns, it's too complex to describe without getting motion
sickness; bottom left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t12.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t12b.jpg $235.00
WP3 The first of many J.Kellogg planes that were found in a
chest, they were purchased 130+ years ago, maybe used once
and then put away after the buyer put his initials on them;
an extra wide moving fillister; fully boxed shoulder, screwed
stop, nicker iron, this is the perfect choice for cutting a
rabbet in any grain direction; this one can work up to
roughly 2", which is wider than the UK examples; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t18.jpg $185.00
WP4 J.Kellogg toted match planes with steel plated fence for
longer wear and greater accuracy; sized for 7/8" thick
stock, they can cut the tongue and groove joint in 3/4"
to 1" thick stock; minor tarnish on the steel, these two
planes saw the most use of all the Kellogg hoard; top
right two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t18.jpg $95.00
WP5 Three Kellogg dado planes; great workers for cutting the
cross-grain joint, they are perfect planes to learn wooden
plane techniques and easily yield results in minutes; good
widths of 1/4", 3/8", and 3/4"; bottom three:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t18.jpg $275.00
WP6 Rare drawer plane pair by Kellogg; at first I thought these
were for cutting a dust joint, but the pencil mark on the
heel of one plane appears to read that they are for cutting
the groove in a drawer frame and making the tongue on the
drawer bottom; never seen another pair like these, I can't
imagine too many were made nor survived together; left two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t19.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t19a.jpg $385.00
WP7 Six fully boxed beading planes; hammer head boxing on the
five largest diameters, the entire sole is boxwood;
diameters of 1/8", 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 7/8", and 1"; like
all the Kellogg hoard, they are in amazing condition;
right pile:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t19.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t19b.jpg $265.00
WP8 Eleven Kellogg planes, 10 HR's (four pairs), and a 1"
nosing plane; pairs are #10, #14, #17, and #22, Kellogg's
numbering system didn't follow the UK's, iron width of
#22 is 1 1/2", #17 is 1 1/8", #14 1", #10 7/8"; a #2 and
#6 round with iron widths 1/4" and 1/2" respectively;
this is the last of the Kellogg plane, several of the next
wooden planes were found with these:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t20.jpg $275.00
WP9 #2 size hollow and round pair; the narrowest size of the
even number planes, they are stamped G.Byron; little used,
they show the common splitting on the left side, which is
next to impossible to avoid due to the very thin stock;
sole is stamped #1, the iron width is 3/16", one throat
slightly opened, still fine workers; left two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t21.jpg $80.00
WP10 1" dado by J.F.&G.M.Lindsey that is also stamped with the
Worcester retailer of White&Conant; little used, a rubbed
area behind the iron on the right side, this is an uncommon
width for a wooden dado; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t21.jpg $90.00
WP11 3/8" (depth of cut) cove and astragal; a very uncommon size,
I had to search high and low for one this size when I made
stairs, needing it as the detail under the treads; in fine
shape, a ca.1800 plane that has no maker's mark, a fine
worker; bottom right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t21.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t21a.jpg $125.00
WP12 Pair of John Sleeper (only one signed) planes; a round with
screw holes on side, not signed, this one is tossed in with
the standing fillister that is signed, it has a later spur
added so it can leave crisp shoulders as it cuts the fixed
size rabbet; a prolific and colorful maker, Sleeper probably
had more regional influence on late 18th and early 19th
centuries planemakers than any other maker in America; bottom
two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t22.jpg $125.00
WP13 17" beech jack plane by Marples; used a few times and put
away; some minor areas of staining on sole, a fine worker
with a double iron; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t23.jpg $90.00
WP14 18th century sash coping plane; with a south-central NH
appearance, it's initialed SM with a decorative separation,
it's in extra clean condition; made of beech, flat chamfers,
the plane cuts the joint allowing sash bars to made with
their corresponding member; bottom left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t23.jpg $85.00
WP15 1/2" (depth of cut) quirk ogee and astragal by T.J.McMaster;
very nice proportions on this barely used plane, this Auburn
NY made plane somehow landed with the Kellogg hoard, it has
his initials on it; a nice example that has the heel stamped
"3/8" in error, it's corrected in ink with "1/2"; bottom
right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t23.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t23a.jpg $110.00
WP16 1/2" ogee by Clegg; a good working example of the classic
profile that can be used anywhere; owner added an auxiliary
fence, that can easily be removed; lightly cleaned, a solid
worker:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t29.jpg $80.00
WP17 2" skew rabbet by Higgs; recently sharpened, it can be used
right out of the box; normal wear, owner mark; perfect for
larger work; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t34.jpg $60.00
WP18 Cowell&Chapman spill plane with steel plated sole; a plane
often owner made, manufactured ones are rather uncommon,
this as found example shows normal signs of wear; used to
make tightly curled shavings for transferring fire, these
were a necessity prior to matches/lighters/flamethrowers;
bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t34.jpg $85.00
WP19 Mathieson toted screw arm plough plane with matching set
of cutters also by Mathieson; a good worker for cutting
grooves, the plane shows normal signs of use, there's lots
more left in it; nice to have everything matching with
these planes:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t44.jpg $190.00
WP20 Mathieson 5/8" (depth of cut) square ovolo and cove, the
former roughly twice the size of the latter to make for a
very nice, and uncommon, profile; in fine shape, never
altered or abused, with owner mark; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t56.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t56a.jpg $175.00
WP21 3/4" chamfer/beveling plane; configured as a molding plane,
it's sized for 3/4" thick stock, it can knock a sharp
corner off or put the full chamfer it's sized to cut; in
fine shape, manufactured, only owner marks, and a rather
uncommon plane; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t56.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t56b.jpg $85.00
WP22 Extra clean, barely used, coffin smoothing plane with ad-
justable cast sole (forward of the iron) and parallel iron;
some of the features found on infill planes are found on
this solid working plane, the mouth can be made as fine as
any infill, it can also be widened (by slackening the screw)
so it can do general work; beefy 2 1/4" parallel iron by
Marples, the plane is manufactured but only has an owner's
mark; rarely found in this condition, if you like wooden
bench planes you'll love this; left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t57.jpg $130.00
WP23 Adjustable panel raiser by Currie/Glasgow; skewed double
iron suits it well for planing in any grain direction,
the adjustable fence allows it to cut a range of widths;
owner mark, little used, the fence can be made better by
planing a bevel on it, it probably was modified to cut a
rabbet; three filled holes on right cheek when a stop was
needed, likely when it was modified to cut a rabbet; an
easy thing to put right, this is a much nicer than usual
example; right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t57.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t57a.jpg $135.00
WP24 ca.1800 double iron sash plane by Stothart/Bath; made to
help build the stunning architectural masterpieces Bath
is known for, this one saw limited use and has never been
modified; cuts the common square ovolo profile, original
finish, no owner marks, it's an uncommon style plane for
England, the Americans preferred double iron sash planes
during this time; a very nice example; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t65.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t65a.jpg $125.00
WP25 Toted screw arm plough plane by Tucker&Appleton of Boston;
a worker that has a dark finish, tip of tote has the common
chip, brass bushings in fence to prevent splitting, this
is the tool of choice for cutting grooves; boxwood arms,
nuts, and washers, the threads show normal knocks and
dings; a lot of plane for the money; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t70.jpg $135.00
WP26 30" beech jointer by W.Thompson; in great shape for such
are bulky piece of wood, it can be honed and used as is;
2 5/8" double iron, owner marks, refinished nicely, no
damage about the wedge mortice, mouth is as fine as the
day it was made, few minor scratches in the sole, this
is no piece of firewood; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t83.jpg $155.00
WP27 10 assorted wooden planes; five beads, with diameters from
1/4" to 5/8", some duplicate sizes and showing normal wear,
two wider rabbets, one with bent tang and other missing
the nicker (most rabbets don't have this), two narrow
hollows (roughly #2 and #4), and a double iron nosing
plane; dirty, each should prove to be a good worker; top
pile:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t84.jpg $115.00
WP28 6" smoothing plane by Marples; used just a few times, free
of modification, decal remnants, a very handy plane for
planing smaller worker or localized areas due to its length
a 1 1/2" single iron; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t98.jpg $60.00
WP29 Matching pair of clean side rabbets by Varvill&Sons; in
little used condition, fine workers; top two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t101.jpg $125.00
WP30 Five early wooden planes, several for restoration; bottom
left is a good J.Morse Jr., of Hopkinton, NH tongue plane,
his work is quite uncommon, the fence has a split at the
toe; above the Morse is a S.Dean birch rabbet, the nose
was cut off to make it the standard 9 1/2", it has the
features of a Dean, who made planes in Dedham, MA during
the mid-1700's; other three are a birch hollow with no
iron or wedge, an early English S.Holbeck worn round that
has an added stop, and a nice single iron sash with early
stamp of "SS", it's missing wedge and iron; the Morse is
worth the price for all five:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t102.jpg $125.00
WP31 Matching set of six slipped side beads; barely use, always
together, by Marples, some with decal remnants on them;
stop can be removed so that the bead can be worked deeper
into the board, a handy feature when making compound pro-
files with hollows and rounds; diameters of 1/4", 3/8",
1/2", 5/8", 3/4", and 7/8"; a solid working set, with
owner mark:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t111.jpg $185.00
WP32 3/4" match planes by Mathieson; cleaned, in fine worker
shape, perfect for cutting tongue and groove joints in
today's standard stock thickness; owner marks; bottom
left two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t112.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t112b.jpg $85.00
WP33 Clean spar plane by Nelson; used to shape masts/spars on
ships, it has a hollow sole; clean and little used, double
iron, it's 2 1/4" across the iron; owner mark, in solid
worker shape, these normally get the daylights kicked out
of them; bottom right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t112.jpg $80.00
WP34 D.R.Barton complex molder; must have been a custom order as
something like this unsprung profile is totally different
from the profiles normally seen by this Rochester, NY maker;
cuts a 3/4" deep by 1 3/4" wide astragal, cove, and astragal
of unusual proportions; not a rework from another plane,
this one saw very little use, has a dry finish, no owner
marks, it's a solid as found example; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t117.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t117a.jpg $165.00
WP35 Good ogee and astragal by Watson/Leeds; nice proportions to
the less common profile that cuts a 7/8" deep mold; in fine,
never messed with condition other than an old clean, with
owner mark:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t124.jpg $155.00
WP36 Owner made complex molding plane with lignum sole; a
standard plane, probably a bead, was reworked to accept a
5/8" wide face profile of two rounds flanking a hollow
made of lignum; an interesting plane that's fully functional,
a fair bit of work was put into this, its maker used a
tongue and groove joint to mate the two woods; in sound
worker shape, the maker's name of the pre-modified plane
was removed; a usable plane, the heel photo suggests a
gaping chasm between the two parts, that's not the case;
 top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t125.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t125a.jpg $120.00
WP37 Another owner made plane with a unique profile that looks
to cut a thumbnail profile with an adjacent cope; perhaps
used on a door frame, the cut is about 1 1/8" wide; in
sound condition, with owner mark, there probably isn't
another like it; bottom:

all nickel plating remains on this the widest, and most
difficult to find beast, all it needs is a honing to be

MS112 Lamson currency carrier; used by merchants to transfer
money from the point of sale to a central register (for
safety and to prevent employee theft), this cool gizmo
dates from a time when cash registers were a rarity; today,
a few stores still have the remains of the complex wire
'tracks' on the ceilings on which these things travel, I
can remember seeing one in Schenectady, NY at the Wallace-
Armor hardware store when it went belly-up and the entire
leftover stock and fixtures were sold; in fine shape, the
wooden container unscrews so that the money can be placed
within; often referred to as 'cash railways,' these things
are very collectible, especially in England (where anything
remotely railroad is collected); Lamson was one of the
major manufacturers of these clever systems and ultimately
survived when pneumatic carriers came on the scene; most
of these got scrapped, they are quite uncommon now; bottom:

MS116 Yankee No.2100 8" sweep brace; pre-Stanley, with hard

names on tools; top right:

MS125 J.K.Somes October 10, 1876 rule patent; a trapezoidal
36" rule, it's graduated along the bottom, angled, and
vertical members; named a "bias measure", the patent
claims it's a yardstick that can be used without changing
its position or reversing the goods being measured; while
it's a rather odd claim, it's believed that the measure
is for cloth as on its back it has fractional yards that
are common to that material; in fine shape, very well
made, and clearly stamped with maker's name, Springfield,
MA location, and patent date; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t82.jpg $90.00

points of the curve, the handles abruptly curve downward;
turned wood grips, this hollowing tool is probably French,

bicycle, or Segway; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t85.jpg $85.00
MS129 Ebony (looks like maccasar) slitting gauge; 11" long, the

MS132 Early hammer struck saw set mounted on a chip carved
walnut block that has extensions to hold in a vise; if
there could be a work of art saw set award, this one can
be a contender, the 'anvil' screw is worked to a heart
shape, the 'stop' has a double end screw with the same
heart decoration at both ends; no maker's mark, it has a
ca.1850's appearance, the spring for the hammer is still
present; owner mark in end grain, 9" long, it can be used
or displayed as homage to its creator who chose to make a
simple tool an wonderful object admired for generations;

MS133 Uncommon Batchelder's hammer struck saw set; patented in
1852 by a bloke from Lowell, MA, this thing may have been
influenced by an abacus as the hammer slides along a rod
held within a cast iron hinged frame that acts as a clamp
to secure the blade; another cast iron portion is raised
or lowered via a screw (this appears to be replaced) to
control the amount of set; probably on its original wooden
base, it's free of damage; overall length of 10"; I've
only had one other one of these in 35+ years of active
tooling, if they were more common I'd find more around
here as headquarters are so close to Lowell; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t87.jpg $245.00
MS134 Timmons race knife; made by a great quality manufacturer,
it has the two cutting edges and a point so that round
scribing can happen; in fine shape, handle is a dark
exotic wood, there's a bit of loss on the sapwood that
remained on the turning; a very handy tool for marking
lumber, assembly numbers on frame members, etc.; 7" long;
top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t88.jpg $70.00
MS135 Pocket sundial and compass in hinged boxwood case; a bit
larger than 2"x3", it has a brace to keep the thing open
as you're fiddling with it to see if you missed the 9:53
shooting break to Cockfosters; paper insert that gives
instructions, a thread (probably a replacement, which
should be no surprise) is used to cast the shadow on the
scribed scales; button locks the needle when the cover
is closed; a very well made thing, I'd guess it to be
mid-19th century, it's English made; too bad John Harrison
came along to ruin sailing the globe with something like
this in hand; top right:

taken them home as they are both seconds for very minor
reasons; this the best American saw ever made, the No.62
with the $2.50 enameled button as a 26" skew back 5pt
ripsaw; still with comsoline, some minor tarnish spots,
ready to use, it's a second for the fact that a very small
portion of the blue enamel isn't on the button, most of
us wouldn't see it, but the keen eye of Simonds' inspectors
noticed it, it was stamped "DAMAGED"; top:

cheap entertainment was just a saw stroke away), the saws
are easy to find, but to find the fragile paper is difficult;

MS185 Massive mast axe with original handle; like a slick that's
swung on the work, this specialized axe has a short handle
for finer control as the blank is worked to lines; slightly
beveled back on the 18" long and 6" wide blade; as found,
in typical axe shape, it's maker mark of Henry Carter;
made in England, it can be cleaned to use or display; left:

MS186 Three Pfeil Swiss Made carving chisels; maybe used once, or
not at all, all they need is a honing; each front bench
gouges, numbered 8a/10, 8a/18, and 9a/10; a fourth chisel
crashed the image, it was one of those in MS184 that I
grabbed by mistake; middle:

MS187 Early plunge saw set, it's an early model of the Disston
Star; on an old wooden block, the casting has CONQUEROR
in it on one side, the other has the Dec.24,1872 date;
in sound worker shape, noting the usual chipping at the
top of the plunger (from being whacked with a hammer),
there is a screw on the right side of the fence that
appears to do nothing, it doesn't appear this one had
the yoke the patent drawing shows, it nevertheless is
100% functional as is; right:

MS188 Unused double bit axe with original label; The Silver
Steel Merrimac Axe as retailed by the Thompson Hoague
Co. of Concord, NH; 9" long, as found, with some rust
spots, most original finish, backside in nicer shape
than the front, it's remarkable it survived at all after
being found in a condominium that had a broken water
pipe leaking into the room for years, the resident
couldn't deal with it so lived in his car during that
time then went to tool heaven (or hell for letting this
thing sit in such an environment); left:

MS189 Dovetail layout template; the popular accordion style
that equally spaces adjacent dovetails as it's opened
or closed; in fine shape, far less common than the
Collett model, it can layout six at a time; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t120.jpg $80.00
MS190 Small Preston router; the baby brother to MS26, it's base
is 4 1/4" long, the knobs and cutter can be swapped around
just like the large model; in sold worker condition and
never messed with, normal finish loss, ferrules are loose
on the knobs; bottom right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t120.jpg $130.00
MS191 Decorative owner made try square dated 1853; scrolly 10"
legs with an equally scrolly brace that's dovetailed into
each arm, brass plating is found on both sides at the
vertex; reminiscent of a certain Anarchist's square, which
also was offered on the list long ago; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/apr/t121.jpg $190.00
MS192 Odd brass framed try square with rosewood stuffing; looks
to manufactured, but no maker's mark, it's like the stuff
made by D&S, Stanley, et al, but with brass instead of
iron that surrounds the stuffing; 6" blade is in typical
condition, it's as found in the same pile of stuff as the
labeled double bit axe head; top right:

MS193 Small oak try square with cutout letters of "WR" carved
at the vertex; good age, not some modern creation, in fine
shape, longest leg is 7"; bottom:

MS194 Odd Mathieson spirit level with molded long edges; made
of ebony, with full brass plating on the top, the long
edges have a pair of adjacent flutes that run the length
of the 9" stock; guaranteed to be original, it's been
clean and polished, vial is original, brass is stamped
with the Mathieson name; top:

MS195 J.B.Addis&Sons 1 1/4" cranked bevel edge paring chisel
with boxwood handle; as nice as they come, back was
polished, this came out of a ca.1890 patternmaker's
chest where all the tools are in new or nearly new con-
dition; first cranked Addis parer I recall seeing, it
has to be a rare thing; middle:

MS196 Small pump drill with turned wooden grip to store the bits
(three original one included); a delicate thing in working
order, 8" long, wood looks to be ebonized hardwood; a
finely made tool; bottom:

MS197 8 1/2" boxwood slide rule with Armstrong's Tables for
calculating 10% and 12%; I don't if this is for figuring
interest (seems rather high give its 19th age) or for
something else, but I do know it can double as an eye
chart for testing vision due to the many numbers and
their size stamped on the thing; in fine shape, with a
couple very minor stain spots, it's made by Nicholls of
London; a nice thing; top:

MS198 Odd folding rule out of the Smallwood factory for figuring
relevant stuff about pots and pans; who knew such a thing
existed, this slender 36" long rule must be the Rosetta
stone for cooks as it has all sorts of finely stamped
complex tables on the inside faces, standard inch graduations
on the exterior, one has a brass slide; perhaps bought from
a competitor, to be used as a pattern when orders of two
rules flooded Smallwood with work, it has the number 196
nicely painted on one leg; in fine shape, I don't see any
scales for pans large enough to cook an ostrich egg omelet;

MS199 Another rule found in the Smallwood factory, this a 12"
long example with tables used on the three fold ironmonger's
rule; I was told this is a pattern used to layout/proof
the complex rules that trade used, it has three tables on
each face for a total of six; in fine shape, this and the
previous came from the same source, a bloke what was first
in line when the Smallwood hoard was discovered; bottom:

MS200 Norris No.20 1 1/2" wide gunmetal shoulder plane with
steel sole; carefully used, 100% all original and never
messed with (or polished), the iron, wedge, and body are
all stamped with the same assembly number; strike button
not mashed, this one escaped hard use; owner stamped his
name in the front mahogany stuffing; mouth is nearly
watertight, all it needs is a honing; great golden patina
to the casting; a great worker to inspire greater work;

MS201 Unused set of Marples carving chisels in the original
tattered box; older ones, each has the straw coloring on
the steel; twelve total, a variety of shapes, you can be
the first to hone them; not to be confused with the later
sets, these are pre-WWII and are very nice quality;

MS202 Unique and kinda crazy small Scottish smoothing plane
with oversized tote that has an extra long horn; 7" long
casting has half an oval at the heel, the walnut stuffing
(to form the bed and its integral tote) meets the half
oval with its own to form a strike area for backing the
iron off; molded stuffing greets the up-swept portion of
the casting, it's the tote that grabs the eye as it appears
to be as large as the plane itself is; futuristic angular
bronze lever cap seems to clash with the curves of the
plane, but it makes a nice transition to the simple bun
with a recessed area to aid the fingers in gripping it; a
marvelous plane that must be seen in person to appreciate,
the 2" parallel iron is all but used up, the plane managed
to survive in sound condition; if there is a #2 size infill,
this is a good candidate; top:

MS203 Since there was no featured tool of the month, this list
terminates with perhaps the nicest tool of the year, a
#1 size gunmetal smoothing plane with select rosewood
stuffing; having chased this one for roughly ten years,
its owner finally decided to let it go; at just 5 1/2"
long, with a 1 1/2" wide iron, this owner made plane is
a thing of beauty to see and hold; a fully functional
plane, with owner marks from two previous owners, the
second owner must have been overjoyed to take possession
of this wee gem after the first threw off his mortal tool;
never cleaned, polished, or otherwise molested, this plane
can be used, admired, or both; the images say more about
this plane than any verbose tool slinger can, so it's best
 to end it here; bottom:
