If you have questions about what the Stanley numbers are, you can
look the planes up on Blood&Gore:

http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan0.htm

Sometimes, emails to/from me are vectored to some cyber black
hole, never reaching their destination. I answer all emails, so if
you haven't heard from me, your/my email is likely having high tea
in said black hole, never to be heard from, so please try again.

Please email me prior to sending money so that you can be sure
the item is still up for grabs. Also, prices do not include shipping,
which is the amount that it takes to go from me to you via the US
Post Office.

This list goes out to many people, normally on the first Monday
of the month (unless otherwise noted above). So, if you see something
you want, it's the quickest finger on the trigger that wins the duel.

Some folks become upset that they miss out on a tool. I wish I had
lots of this stuff many times over so I can satisfy the demand, but
that is normally not the case. Some of it does have duplicates here,
and if so, I will state that in my reply to you.

Also, due to the nature of selling over the wires, tools are sold
on a first come, first serve basis. The first person to say "I'll
take it", gets it. I have to operate this way as some will take a
few days to get back to me with their interest in a particular item,
and it's unfair to keep others waiting who are willing to buy the
item immediately.

I reserve the right to correct typographical errors after the list
goes out. I rarely make them, but when I do they can be major ones.

If you're the kind of person who puts a straightedge to the sole of
a #40, to check it for flatness, or who tosses a plane on a scale to
weigh it against what it states in the Stanley catalogs, you'll need
to take your business elsewhere. I'll wish you luck finding perfection
in something that was never made, nor intended to be, perfect. You guys
know who you are, and it's best for both of us that our paths not cross.

Remember, you don't have to be a connoisseur (did I spell that
correctly) to shop here. You can be a wirehead, a metalhead, a zipper-
head, a propellerhead, a deadhead, a cokehead, or even a knuckle
dragging oaf, just like me, to shop here, as long as your dinero is
green.

Thanks for shopping, and remember that no letters or words were
injured when writing this list...

FEATURED TOOL OF THE MONTH
******** **** ** *** *****

FT1 Extremely rare type 1 #93 cabinetmaker's rabbet; a plane
that I didn't know existed until 2.5 weeks ago when a
collector showed it to me, he decided to sell it as he's
changed interests; only the second to appear, it's really
an odd thing when compared to the later productions of it;
made of three castings - the base, which carries the
cutter, the top, which sits over the base and extends the
full length of the plane, and the third, a smaller casting
that mates with the top casting; it's the top and the
smaller casting that required complex machining to fit
perfectly with each other, this necessitated a rethink of
the design; the plane could have been made from two castings,
as is the case for the standard production, but no one at
Stanley figured out how to do this without the top casting
being solid where it forms the front and sole; were it cast
solid, it would make it difficult to keep the plane aligned
accurately as metal likes to move as it seasons and after
it's machined; Stanley ultimately figured out that a core
would make the top casting hollow and thereby reduce the
tendency to warp, it's because of this that you see the
disk at the nose of the plane (removing that will reveal
the hollow in the top casting); the third casting allows
the top casting to be hollow as well as the third casting,
but it's not the optimal solution as it's more parts, more
parts to machine, and more possibility of things going awry
forcing Stanley to scrap this design quickly; as found, it
has all original parts save for the lever cap's fulcrum
screw; cutter is stamped with the August 3, 1897 patent date,
which is for the Hand-Y grip, not the plane; not embossed
with the model number, the heel of the top casting doesn't
have the graceful curvature like the later models do; the
third casting has two 'humps', one familiar as the grip at
the nose (found on the later production), the other where
the third casting joins the top casting; the third casting
is secured to the top casting with a countersunk screw; the
small set screw that allows consistent set when the top
casting is removed is missing; the top casting has a larger
'throat' making where the set screw fits visible while the
plane is assembled; remnants of the plating remain, there
are no cracks/chips; a significant plane for the Stanley
collector, it exemplifies how tools can evolve from an idea
to production, which for many is an incremental iteration
that often has a touch of insanity tossed into the mix:

MS41 Pair of nickel plated gull wing handle shaves of the variety
made popular by J.Simons of Troy,NY (and elsewhere); a simple
design that uses a wedge to secure the bevel up cutter, it
proved to be a very popular design and was copied by many;
both in fine worker shape, with normal grunge, they were
often fit with whatever iron was on hand as the castings
could be purchased, one has a Stanley block plane iron in
it; top two:

MS43 Sheffield plated beech brace with push button chuck and
two color lignum turned head; cleaner than usual examples,
this is the standard pattern used for decades, nearly
every woodworker in England, and many in the US, had one;
compliments the center, nosing, shell, etc. bits, all of
which are easy to find; head has a harmless and stable
check due to the fact that lignum doesn't like to stay
still, that happened long ago and is in no danger of
growing larger; a drop or two of oil will make the head
turn freer; left:

MS49 Brass plumb bob reel that resembles an old fishing reel;
good age, the crank knob is exotic wood, on the reverse a
thumb screw bears upon the spook to lock it or put pressure
on it; no doubt manufactured, and probably patented, I see
no marks on it; with a low end bob and old line, it will
compliment a nicer bob well; bottom right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jul/t22.jpg $55.00
MS50 Wide body L.L.Davis 24" inclinometer; the first production
that is an impressive bit of cast iron given the intricacy
of the pattern which has all sorts of scroll work through-
out; with no damage, there is gold highlighting in the coves
below and above the top and bottom rails, most japanning
remains; original vial, the brass was polished, something
old time collectors couldn't resist; this is the one to
own, as it offers the most bang for the buck, the wide ones
had very limited production; the image makes it look bent,

has an early profile, with the front serving as the grip,
there never was stuffing there; 10 3/4" long, it's offered
for restoration as the wedge is replaced, the iron isn't
original, the heel was whacked with a mallet/hammer to back
the iron off, that cracked the casting in three pieces
above the screw to secure the stuffing; definitely worth
restoring, it will still work as designed, but you don't
want to be hitting the heel anymore; top right:

MS186 Millers Falls No.7 smoothing plane; the company's model
of the #2, it's the toughest size to find of the company's
lineup that matched Stanley's size for size; a fine ex-
ample that has most of the original finish, rosewood knob
and tote, it limited use, its owner(s) cared for it well;
lesser examples have sold for more than this much nicer
than usual plane; bottom:

MS187 Chaplin's Improved jack plane; a damage free, as found,
example with all original parts; a simple design that
gave Stanley a run for the money, Stanley was never able
drive a stake in the heart of this one as they couldn't
buy the design and send it into extinction; normal grime
and superficial rust; top:

MS188 Hayworth's Patent, as made by Birmingham Plane Mfg. Co,
transitional jointer; a very uncommon configuration, as
found, all original parts, lever cap has a small chip
at edge; 24" long, dark patina, Hayworth, from Missouri,
must have been desperate to manufacture his design, he
had to look east for a company that was desperate to stay
in business to make it, it proved to be a match made in
tool hell; top:

MS189 Union X6 fore plane; earlier production with the fat knob,
it has all original parts and no damage; grungy from sitting
idle, which is the case for most Union X planes as choosy
woodworkers chose Stanley rather than look for the Union
label; will clean nicely; middle:

MS190 Pair of drawbore pins; all steel, these rugged ones were
used by many trades, coachmakers seem to have used them
more than any other, they work just as well in the
cabinetmaking shop; in better than usual condition, with
minor rust that will easily clean; bottom two:
