If you have questions about what the Stanley numbers are, you can
look the planes up on Blood&Gore:

https://supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan0.htm

Sometimes, emails to/from me are vectored to some cyber black
hole, never reaching their destination. I answer all emails, so if
you haven't heard from me, your/my email is likely having high tea
in said black hole, never to be heard from, so please try again.

Please email me prior to sending money so that you can be sure
the item is still up for grabs. Also, prices do not include shipping,
which is the amount that it takes to go from me to you via the US
Post Office.

This list goes out to many people, normally on the first of the
month (unless otherwise noted above). So, if you see something you
want, it's the quickest finger on the trigger that wins the duel.

Some folks become upset that they miss out on a tool. I wish I had
lots of this stuff many times over so I can satisfy the demand, but
that is normally not the case. Some of it does have duplicates here,
and if so, I will state that in my reply to you.

Also, due to the nature of selling over the wires, tools are sold
on a first come, first serve basis. The first person to say "I'll
take it", gets it. I have to operate this way as some will take a
few days to get back to me with their interest in a particular item,
and it's unfair to keep others waiting who are willing to buy the
item immediately.

I reserve the right to correct typographical errors after the list
goes out. I rarely make them, but when I do they can be major ones.

If you're the kind of person who puts a straightedge to the sole of
a #40, to check it for flatness, or who tosses a plane on a scale to
weigh it against what it states in the Stanley catalogs, you'll need
to take your business elsewhere. I'll wish you luck finding perfection
in something that was never made, nor intended to be, perfect. You guys
know who you are, and it's best for both of us that our paths not cross.

Remember, you don't have to be a connoisseur (did I spell that
correctly) to shop here. You can be a wirehead, a metalhead, a zipper-
head, a propellerhead, a deadhead, a cokehead, or even a knuckle
dragging oaf, just like me, to shop here, as long as your dinero is
green.

Thanks for shopping, and remember that no letters or words were
injured when writing this list...

FEATURED TOOL OF THE MONTH
******** **** ** *** *****

FT1 A lowly Sargent No.2204 steel block in an extremely rare
configuration; the plane was first advertised in a 1913
Sargent catalogue, this one is custom made to promote it at
the Connecticut Hardware Association's meeting during February
25th & 26th, 1914 given as a souvenir for the attendees;
stamped at the toe "C.H.A. FEB.25-26-1914" the plane is
entirely chrome plated, including the iron; fit in a custom
box, with a label that notes the location of the meeting,
The Taft Hotel, New Haven, formally a luxurious place where
presidents stayed, it was built three years earlier - booming
times in New Haven then; some quick web searching shows the
association had just 130 members during that year which was
90% of all hardware dealers in the state during that time,
dues of $5.00/year and with the president James De Phelps
of Windsor Locks; also, an entry in the Hardware Dealer's
Magazine states that a fair number of members attend the
meets, but complains at length that more should attend; given
this, it's probable a small batch were made for only those
who attended, this example may be the only survivor, but
if not, it's no doubt the best as it was never used and
still glistens like the day it was made; offered without
apology, and one that never left New Haven area until a week
ago, it punches well above its weight as a wee lightweight
that ounce for ounce has more significance than most that
are considered heavyweights in the tool squared circle; a
standard production model is included to display with this
amazing item, but if you can't bear the thought of it being
anywhere near the plated one, hand it to your pit bull to
give it a gnawing:

very popular, various widths from 1/4" to 2" (some duplicate

ground with a skew to work dovetails or similar; top; a
clean group that can be honed and used as is; top:

to offer it as a metallic plane as well as the wooden style
made popular by Gage Plane Co. of Vineland, NJ; earlier
production with patent date embossed behind the frog and
"No.5" at the heel; as found, no damage, all original
parts, a bit grimy, it's a clever design that allows the

ST76 #239 special dado plane; the model with the fence, it cuts
a 1/8" dado or groove; offered for parts/restoration, one

that surround "STANLEY", "BAILEY No.4", and "PLANE"; free of
damage, the plane saw little use and has all original parts
that are proper to the ca.1915 era; not recently done, it
has good age, it equally can be used and admired:

offered on it; boards are much more difficult to find
than the planes are:

WP23 J.R.Tolman Hanover MA v-grooving plane; made like a con-
ventional slide arm plough, the sole is V-shape that cuts
to a set depth via a depth stop; generally thought to be
a shipwright's plane, and that's probably true, it's also
very useful for those who make moldings with hollow and
round planes, it can cut squares and define tracks on
which a round can follow; in fine shape, free of damage,

https://supertool.com/forsale/nov/t126.jpg $140.00
WP36 I.Sleeper 27 1/2" jointer; among the planes of any 18th
century maker, the bench planes rank high on the rarity
scale, especially jointers of this length, as they got
used heavily and often ended up being cut up for scrap
wood or burned; this is a remarkable survival likely due
to its iron being missing in action long ago; with a
closed tote, lignum strike button, the bed was never
reworked for a double iron; very dark patina, owner mark,
the wedge looks to be original, oddly the heel shows
a fair bit of banging, the 'tangs' were docked; as luck

a bargain price over what a complete one fetches; some
mouth roughness and the common cracking at sides of the
mouth radiating back toward the heel, it's nonetheless
a respectable example; bottom right:

MS171 Twenty early style bits, the bulk of which are center bits
with four countersinks; as found, some with original straw
color, others show use, one with some pitting, widths from
3/8" to 2", all should prove usable; right pile:

MS173 Preston bull nose rabbet, the model that became the Record
077; free of damage, 50% plating, plenty of life left in
the 1 1/8" wide iron, it's a well made plane, better than
the Stanley #90; bottom right:

MS174 1 1/4"" cranked bevel edge paring chisel by Buck Bros.;
with original turned handle, uncommon width, never abused,
and with plenty of life left in it; top:

MS175 7/8" screw box with matching tap; turned integral handles
on the box, English made, I can read London/Warranted,
the stamping looks like Moseley's; top right:

MS176 Four front bent carving gouges by Buck Bros.; with re-
placement handles, forgings are pre-WWII and in sound
worker shape each a deep sweep; widths of 5/16", 7/16",
1/2", and 5/8"; fine quality, patternmakers preferred
Buck Bros. stuff over all others; bottom four:

MS177 Millers Falls No.772 10" sweep brace; unused, with most

MS178 Charles Sperry January 20, 1891 pipe wrench (listed as a
tong in the patent title); a rare thing, first I've seen,
it has a rack worked on one leg with a spring-loaded pawl
on the other leg, the lower jaw can slide through a slot
cut in the leg with the rack; stamped with the patent
date, it's 16 1/2" long; free of damage and dark, even
patina overall; bottom:

MS179 Shapely and different double rabbeting shave; very well
made, and one I believe was manufactured as a raw casting
that was fit by the buyer, it's no doubt one carriage-
makers uses; a looped grip at each end, it was made to
rock over the worker, where the top handle is pulled
while the bottom could be held still, something done to
cut broad curvatures, or both grips could be pulled
together to cut standard rabbets; like many, it's fit
with a Stanley 2" spoke shave iron and lever cap; finely
made, barely used, nice patina, 12" long, a graceful
thing; top left:

MS180 Bronze copy of a Defiance style block plane; very well
done, probably one made by a patternmaker for his own
use after seeing his coworker's; good mass and patina,
7 7/8" long, it has the clever lever cap style found
on some of the Bailey Tool Co.'s products; owner initial
stamped on side, the Stanley Rule & Lever iron needs to
 be reground; top right:

MS181 Millers Falls No.14 jack plane; earlier production with
rosewood knob and tote, it saw very little use, the
finish glistens and is glossy; a couple of insignificant
pit spots well behind the mouth from sitting; can be
honed and used as is; top:
https://supertool.com/forsale/nov/t131.jpg $90.00
MS182 Sargent No.514 low angle jack plane; one of the best planes
offered by any maker, it shames the popular Stanley #62;
with all original parts and no damage, the main casting is
more rugged than the #62, the adjuster is Norris-like in
that the set and lateral adjustment of the cutter are done
with a single screw; an easier to use mouth adjuster has
two lugs that are easy to move; free of damage, all original
parts, nearly all japanning remains, there is superficial
rust on the cheeks, more on one side than the other, all of
it will quickly clean; forget about the others, old and
new, this is the one to own; bottom:

MS183 142 (not a typo, "one hundred and forty two" in Nigerian
cocoa magnate speak) Pfeil Swiss Made carving chisels
that never tasted a single morsel of wood; all bought by
a would-be carver, the only carving they did was to his
bank account, which is fortunate for you as the entire
lot is priced considerably less than what they'd do to
your bank account if bought new today; worthy of your
grandmother's sterling silverware chest as storage, if
instant gratification is your thing, here it is in
spades:
