If you have questions about what the Stanley numbers are, you can
look the planes up on Blood&Gore:

Sometimes, emails to/from me are vectored to some cyber black
hole, never reaching their destination. I answer all emails, so if
you haven't heard from me, your/my email is likely having high tea
in said black hole, never to be heard from, so please try again.

If there is anything in particular that you're after, do ping me
as there is a lot of stuff here that isn't on the list; the list
just represents a snapshot of the previous month's haul with none
of the stuff having appeared on a previous list. I like to keep
things fresh here.

Please email me prior to sending money so that you can be sure
the item is still up for grabs. Also, prices do not include shipping,
which is the amount that it takes to go from me to you via the US
Post Office.

This list goes out to many people, normally on the first Monday
of the month (unless otherwise noted above). So, if you see something
you want, it's the quickest finger on the trigger that wins the duel.

Some folks become upset that they miss out on a tool. I wish I had
lots of this stuff many times over so I can satisfy the demand, but
that is normally not the case. Some of it does have duplicates here,
and if so, I will state that in my reply to you.

Also, due to the nature of selling over the wires, tools are sold
on a first come, first serve basis. The first person to say "I'll
take it", gets it. I have to operate this way as some will take a
few days to get back to me with their interest in a particular item,
and it's unfair to keep others waiting who are willing to buy the
item immediately.

I reserve the right to correct typographical errors after the list
goes out. I rarely make them, but when I do they can be major ones.

If you're the kind of person who puts a straightedge to the sole of
a #40, to check it for flatness, or who tosses a plane on a scale to
weigh it against what it states in the Stanley catalogs, you'll need
to take your business elsewhere. I'll wish you luck finding perfection
in something that was never made, nor intended to be, perfect. You guys
know who you are, and it's best for both of us that our paths not cross.

Lastly, and I don't like to mention this, but if you tell me that
money is on the way for something you want, and you never make good
on it, we won't be doing business in the future. It's unfair, actually
downright discourteous, to others who want the same thing, and I tell
them it's sold. Pull this on me, and you're exorcised from the list.
Sorry, but I don't tolerate this behavior well at all.

Don't forget the cool new tools that I'm making - a jazzy layout
knife being used by professionals (made the cover of Feb.1998 FWW!),
a detachable block plane handle designed to fit your standard pitch
block planes, a killer Robinson's Improved Patent sliding bevel, a
tilting jaw for your Emmert's vise, and the finest bench plane in
production today, the Bed Rock #601. You can see it all at:

Remember, you don't have to be a connoisseur (did I spell that
correctly) to shop here. You can be a wirehead, a metalhead, a zipper-
head, a propellerhead, a deadhead, a cokehead, or even a knuckle
dragging oaf, just like me, to shop here, as long as your dinero is
green.

Thanks for shopping, and remember that no letters or words were
injured when writing this list...

FEATURED TOOL OF THE MONTH
******** **** ** *** *****

FT1 Boxed Siegley's Improved plough plane; probably the best
example in existence, the original box with bright red
label has done a wonderful job preserving this plane
despite the sliding cover parting company long ago; the
original wooden box for the 16 cutters is present; long
arms have gold color finish on them, the plane has 99.99%
original finish, it may have been used once or twice and
then put away; from the Inner Sanctum, I bought it at a
small auction in central NH 20, or so, years ago, not be-
cause of the plane (Siegley stuff bores me, sorry), but
because of the box and the condition; stamped with the
patent date, the fence's casting is embossed "No.2", no
other markings are on the plane or the label, this one
was likely made by Stanley prior to Union's effort, it
seems Stanley didn't want any buyers to know they were
 making a combination plane that gave their #45 a run for
the money; Stanley, however, didn't want to miss a chance
to make more money on the Siegley name, they purchased the
Wilkes-Barre, PA company and ultimately offered a Siegley
line of planes that were a lower quality than the tried
and true Bailey line; a great example:

 STANLEY

ST1 #93 cabinetmaker's rabbet plane; looks to be unused, ca.
1975 UK production, all it needs is a honing; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t1.jpg $125.00
ST2 #92 cabinetmaker's rabbet plane; similar vintage as pre-
vious, UK production, some tarnish spots on the plating
from sitting idle in the original box; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t1.jpg $110.00
ST3 #90 cabinetmaker's bull nose rabbet plane; same vintage
and origin as previous two planes, it was used a few
times and put away; bottom:

ST4 #80 cabinet scraper; little used UK production with all
original parts, box, there's saw dust on it from the last
time used; a handy and easy to use tool that most wood-
workers owned at one time or another; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t7.jpg $50.00
ST5 #18 knuckle joint block plane; 1930's production with the
long machined bed, it saw little use as most japanning is
present, oddly most plating is worn from the lever cap;
some tarnish/light rust on the left cheek will easily
clean; my favorite standard pitch block plane; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t11.jpg $55.00
ST6 #98/#99 side rabbets; solid workers that are free of damage,
showing normal signs of plating wear; first model with the
patent date stamped in the nose section, which can be re-
moved for stopped work; owner made dovetailed box (not in
the image) tossed in for free; bottom two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t19.jpg $135.00
ST7 #10 jack rabbit; a 1930's US made example in clean worker
shape, the iron is a later Record replacement, which is
common on many Stanley planes found in England; a few areas
of very minor pitting on sole that won't hinder its use,
you can polish them out if you feel it necessary; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t20.jpg $130.00
ST8 #10 1/2 smooth rabbet; type 1 production with the adjust-
able mouth; as found and in need of a clean, the iron is
an owner made one, the cap iron original Stanley; still
with cast disk at base of knob, this will make a clean
and fine worker without too much work; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t20.jpg $195.00
ST9 #604 1/2 Bed Rock oversize smoothing plane; with original
parts, including the "BED ROCK" lever cap, as found, little
japanning remains; heel of iron and part of cap iron show
some shallow pitting, face of iron is clean down at the
business end; tote was split near the base and glued; a
worker; top:

other with round; a very popular design with the two nuts
that engage the iron to make setting easy, they are clean
and complete, and only need a honing; bottom right two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t22.jpg $80.00
ST11 #923 8" sweep brace; a ready to use worker in cleaner than
usual condition, it's the perfect size for general and finer
work; equipped with all fine features that are expected on
a brace, it's Stanley's best selling premium brace; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t23.jpg $85.00
ST12 #140 combination skewed rabbet block plane; a worker in as
found condition, the fence screws are a replacement; in
need of a clean, free of damage; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t23.jpg $95.00
ST13 #4 1/2 oversize smoothing plane; early 1890's example with
all original parts, never abused, little used, it can be
used as is after a honing; the pre-1900 #4 1/2's are not
common, especially in this condition; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t26.jpg $135.00
ST14 Rare production of the #4 1/2H heavy oversize smoothing
plane; a model sold to the English in an attempt to have
the woodworkers there chuck their heavy infills for the
Bailey design, these planes are identical to the #4 1/2
but have an "H" embossed after the number as they are
heavier than the standard production; this example is a
very late production, most Stanley collectors have never
seen one, it's from ca.1930, when Stanley was still
offering the plane; all #4 1/2H have the two patent dates
embossed on the main casting, none have an adjusting screw,
and all use the #2 1/4 wide iron and cap iron (which also
is found on the #5 1/2H and the earlier #5 1/2 planes);
in fine shape, the lever cap has "STANLEY" embossed on it,
the sweetheart logo is stamped in the iron, the frog has
the small adjusting nut; I have only seen one other heavy
plane from this era, a #5 1/2H that is fit with the same
era parts, it's in nearly brand new condition; this one
is in much nicer than usual shape, they are rarely found
in good shape, most have swapped parts, including the
irons, which more often than not are UK Stanley or Record;
very lightly cleaned, no damage, this one ready for a
serious collection of Stanley stuff as it will be difficult
to find a nicer one; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t26.jpg http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t26a.jpg $865.00
ST15 #50 plow, beading, and match plane; US made, with original
parts and instructions, the battered original box is tossed
in for free; a popular plane, especially in England, this
US model has the rosewood grip, which came onto the plane
late in US production; clean, no damage, chip deflector is
in the box; a fine worker; left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t28.jpg $155.00
ST16 1/4" Everlasting chisel; a very clean one that saw barely
any use; 9" long, it can be honed and used as is; right:

ST17 Pair of clean folding boxwood rules with sliding brass
caliper; a #36 six-inch, two fold with sweetheart logo
and a #32 one-foot, four fold in nearly new condition;
both ready to measure; bottom right two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t29.jpg $70.00

smaller/finer work, each with the turned wooden knob and a

the other as found, both sound workers; bottom left two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t30.jpg $90.00
ST19 Pair of worker block planes; a #203 that needs attention
(adjuster need to be freed, the lever cap has a bite out
of it) and a ca.1910 #9 1/2 block plane that's in sound,
albeit dusty, worker condition, it can be honed and used;
bottom right two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t30.jpg $60.00   ST20 #79 side rabbet; later model with the adjustable stop, UK
production, in ready to use condition after the cutters are
honed; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t31.jpg $79.00
ST21 #602C Bed Rock corrugated smoothing plane; with "BED ROCK"
embossed lever cap, and the four-line logo on the iron,
this ca.1915 as found condition plane has all original
parts; a very uncommon plane in the Stanley plane lineup;
top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t39.jpg $790.00
ST22 #289 skewed fillister; early 1920's production in as found
condition, no damage, dirty from sitting idle, japanning
75%; one of Stanley's best planes, it can cut a rabbet in
any grain direction, and like most of these the spurs are
short, there's enough left to score the wood; left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t40.jpg $235.00
ST23 Pair of Everlasting chisels; 1/2" and uncommon 1 1/4", the

workers; bottom left two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t41.jpg $90.00
ST24 #112 cabinet scraper with new old stock replacement Starrett
blade; as found and dusty, no damage, it will clean to be a
fine worker; Starrett made these blades with a milled hole
 at the center for use on a hand scraper, it fits the plane
 perfectly, the hole never hinders the holding power of the
frog; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t44.jpg $155.00
ST25 No.H1306 unused roll of six Irwin pattern augers made in
the Handyman line ca.1960; the Handyman line was Stanley's
lower priced tools for the occasional or hobby woodworker,
 by today's standards it's best quality; in original plastic
pouch, tools other than the bench planes of this line are
much less common; in ready to use condition, diameters of
1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", and 3/4"; fit nearly all
metallic frame braces; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t45.jpg $55.00
ST26 Yankee No.2101A brace made for the Bell System; as found,
in fine worker shape as is, it's a brace that's almost
impossible to destroy, if a lineman can't do it from normal
use, you can't either; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t46.jpg $75.00
ST27 #58 glazier's chisel; a fancy name for what really is just
a 1 3/4" wide butt chisel with a leather tip handle; barely
used, only in need of a honing, some old tape residue will
easily clean; left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t47.jpg $55.00

uncommon model that's sized between the #720 and #740;

produced during the past 20 year; can be honed and used as
is; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t54.jpg $55.00
ST31 New old stock #65 boxwood marking gauge; graduated arm,

lengths and vintage; each as found, one with the ca.1930
decal, lengths of 4 1/2", 6", 8", and 10"; will easily
clean to be fine workers; right pile:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t54.jpg $75.00
ST33 #12 cabinet scraper; as found condition from an old shop,
it's an earlier production with the casting straight across
toe and heel; dusty, free of damage, in need of a clean,
the cutter may be original, it needs a thorough clean as
well, some old tape was put on it for who knows what
reason; bottom left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t56.jpg $65.00
ST34 Three different size #18 rosewood handle sliding bevels;
as found, will benefit from a clean to make them nicer than
usual condition; blade lengths of 6" (this one is a
Southington Hardware of Southington, CT ), 8" (with sweet-
heart logo, and 10"; right three:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t59.jpg $65.00
ST35 #386 jointer gauge; as found, no damage, all original
parts, plating in normal worn condition for this tool, it's
in sound worker shape for aiding planing an edge at a right
angle to the face of the board and for beveling edges when
doing coopered work; bottom:

darkened the exterior for the main casting, this from
sitting idle, it can be used as is after a honing; dates
to early 1937, judging by the date stamped on the back
of the iron (hardness tests back then are month/year
stampings); a perfect worker for those just starting;

ST53 #212 scraper in the original box; as mint as the plane can
be, I don't believe it was ever used; all original parts,
including the unmarked cutter (most are this way), the box
retains most of the label, there is masking tape to
strengthen the edges and corners, careful work can probably
remove that; in never need upgrade condition, and far less
common that #1's in the original box, this box deserves a
tool medal of honor for keeping the plane so nice; right:

use); tatty instructions included:

damage, some very minor superficial rust developed when
some rain fell on it, that will clean in less than a
minute, it can be honed and used as is; top:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t142.jpg        $120.00
ST65 #6 fore plane; early 1930's production in barely used con-
dition, most of the decal remains on the tote; sweetheart
iron, like the previous some rain dampened it and super-
ficial rust developed, it has more than what the previous
 shows all of it will clean in less than 5 minutes, it can
then be honed and used; bottom:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t142.jpg        $125.00
ST66 #95 edge trimming block plane; a worker that shows loss of
japanning, all original parts, the skewed iron allows it to
work any grain direction; ideal for squaring edges and for
cutting bevels, a sound design copied by many, this is the
original which doesn't leave skidmarks like those of bronze
can do; top left:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t143.jpg        $110.00
ST67 #20 Everlasting 1/2" bevel edge paring chisel; 11 1/4" long,
as found, dry finish on handle, which has the waist turned
on it, it will clean to be a great worker; bottom:

ST69 #5 1/2C corrugated oversize jack plane; early 1930's pro-
duction, with all original parts, decal on the tote, full
length iron indicates it saw little use; general tarnish,
it will make a great worker; bottom:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t145.jpg        $125.00
ST70 #923 14" sweep brace; new condition, though with some knocks
to the thick finish on grip and head, it's ready to go for
 more powerful boring, this is Stanley's best selling premium
brace and the largest sweep for the model; bottom:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t146.jpg        $110.00
ST71 #45 combination plane; a complete worker that saw limited
use, some minor superficial rust formed on some cutters;
from the 1920's, a fine worker; right:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t147.jpg        $215.00
ST72 #92 butt and rabbeting gauge; a lot of bling on this gizmo
made of brass, steel, and rosewood; cleaner that typical,
free of alteration, it saw limited use; top left:

  WOOD PLANES
**** ******

WP1 Odd, probably a custom order, complex profile by Griffiths
Norwich; cuts 1" deep by 1 1/4" wide, it's a series of
three bead like shapes, the left and right terminate with
a quirk, the transition between the two smallest is a
hollow; lightly used, free of modification, with owner
mark:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t2.jpg $155.00
WP2 1/2" (depth of cut) ogee by Griffiths/Norwich; good size
for cabinetwork, lightly cleaned, owner mark, a minor scuff
in sole 1"+ behind the mouth has no bearing on its use;
a profile with unlimited applications:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t3.jpg $75.00
WP3 Very complex 3/4" (depth) by 1 5/8" (width) cove, quirk
ogee, round and quirk bead; by Griffiths/Norwich, free of
alteration, lightly cleaned, no owner marks, normal banging
on heel from backing off the iron/wedge, there is a notice-
able round where the ogee abuts the quirk:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t4.jpg $165.00
WP4 3/8" (depth) quirk ogee by Eastwood/York; as found, dry
surface, good size for cabinetwork, face of iron has usual
rust from sitting, it should polish well:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t5.jpg $75.00
WP5 Nice solid boxwood 1 1/2" wide skew rabbet by Varvill; no
doubt a custom order, it's in fine shape, iron is still
sharp, a bit of tiger stripe figure along the top, most
boxwood planes are owner made, it's rare that one by a
notable maker appears; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t11.jpg $185.00
WP6 Used once sash fillister by Greenslade; as clean as they
come, the owner probably spent more time stamping his name
than he ever did using it; sole is fully boxed and dove-
tailed onto the body, the plane never had a finish put on
it; great for cutting rabbets without the possibility of
the plane walking off the work, the fence references the
edge closest to you while the plane cuts on the opposite
edge; nicker iron to score the grain for a clean shoulder;
a lot of plane for the money; rarely found in this con-
dition; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t12.jpg http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t12a.jpg $135.00
WP7 1/4" dado by Varvill; in sound worker shape, this narrow
width is normally found warped beyond use, this one escaped
that; minor wear on stock has no bearing on its use; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t12.jpg $85.00
WP8 Fenced fluting plane by Griffiths/Norwich; made like a common
wedge arm plough, it will work parallel 3/8" wide hollows
for a nice detail on finer work; clean, little used, and a
very uncommon plane; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t19.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t19a.jpg $165.00
WP9 Griffiths/Norwich spill plane; a very clean and fine worker,
manufactured spill planes are much less common than owner
made ones; designed to make a long and tight curl that can
be used to transfer fire; with owner mark; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t24.jpg $110.00
WP10 Griffiths/Norwich 5 1/2" beech plane for knocking sharp
edges off; at first glance it looks like a chamfer plane,
but the sole doesn't form the typical right angle that a
chamfer planes does, instead it's more acute so it can be
rolled to work the flat more on the edge or more on the
surface; an odd plane that saw little use; bottom right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t25.jpg $75.00
WP11 Greenslade/Bristol moving fillister; with the notched fence
feature, which makes it easy for removing the iron, this is
a fine worker for cutting a rabbet in any grain direction;
boxed shoulder, boxwood wedge to secure the nicker, screwed
stop, it can be honed and used as is; lightly cleaned, the
the wedge finial shows normal banging from backing it out
of the mortice; the best fenced rabbet design; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t29.jpg $135.00
WP12 3/4" (depth) by 1 7/8" quirk ogee and oversize astragal;
made by J.Miller, as found, dark patina, no alteration,
normal banging on the heel from backing off iron, the
boxing for quirk has the common small chip at the heel;
almost a cord of wood in this big brown molder:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t32.jpg $115.00
WP13 3/4" square ogee, quirk, and bead; a rather odd profile in
a great size for today's standard stock thickness; well
made, no maker mark, no spring, some minor roughness at
top of wedge finial, owner mark, a nice plane:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t33.jpg $125.00
WP14 Broad quirk ovolo and astragal by Greenslade/Bristol; cuts
3/4" deep by 7/8" wide, the ovolo is stretched wider than
typical which suggest this is a custom order; little used,
owner mark, never messed with:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t34.jpg $110.00
WP15 Square, cove, and square by Varvill/York; cuts 1/2" deep
by 5/8" wide, it was cleaned, an owner marked both ends;
a nice profile that's not common:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t35.jpg $120.00
WP16 Broad reverse ogee and bead by Gleave; cuts a nicely pro-
portioned 7/8" deep by 1 3/8" wide profile, it's as found
and never cleaned or altered; owner mark, a pattern that's
more frequently found with an astragal rather than a bead:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t36.jpg $135.00
WP17 Odd custom and simple profile of a broad ovolo and astragal;
owner made, well done, it's designed to cut a deep (1 1/2")
by 1 1/8" wide profile, perhaps it was used with another
plane, it definitely is not a re-work; owner mark, overall
 fine shape, the checks in the heel are not as bad as the
 image suggests, they are far from the Grand Canyon of Beech;
iron's tang is short, layout marks visible on toe:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t37.jpg $95.00
WP18 Odd E.Preston/Litchfield St. double fluting plane; not a
re-work, perhaps it's a mother plane, both flutes (hollows)
are a different width; dark patina, owner mark, width of
cut is 1 1/8", depth is 3/8"; a strange manufactured plane
by one the most notable English toolmakers, the flutes are
sections of a circle, the photo suggests otherwise, one
appears misshapen due to a wear area:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t38.jpg $125.00
WP19 1/2" match planes by Moseley; in normal used shape, still
100% usable, with owner marks, they cut the popular tongue
and groove joint where the groove is centered on 1/2" thick
stock, they can work up to 5/8" thick stock equally well;
top left two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t45.jpg $80.00
WP20 Graduated matched set of four Grecian quirk ovolo and fillet
planes by Hields/Nottingham; always together, with owner
mark, nicely cleaned, no reworks, it's uncommon to find
sets of molding planes; sizes (depth of cut) of 3/8", 4/8",
6/8", and 7/8"; minor chipping of boxing at the heel as is
so common on boxed planes:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t48.jpg $265.00
WP21 S.Toppan English-style panel raiser with adjustable fence;
thought to be a Newburyport, MA area housewright, furniture
and planemaker, he fought in the Revolutionary War, his
plane output is quite uncommon; the English influence on
this plane is likely due to the trade after the War of 1812
when Newburyport thrived on foreign trade; early 1800's
details, adjustable fence allows the flat panel to work
different widths, the fence's screws can be repositioned
over the sole to increase the working range, there are
screw holes from when that was done; slotted iron by
Moseley looks to be original; as found, 8 1/2" long, will
clean to be a fine worker; owner mark; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t56.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t56a.jpg $145.00
WP22 5/8" cove by Marples; a dusty as found plane that will
benefit from a clean; corner of stop relieved so it could
work adjacent to another profile, something commonly done
on wooden planes; owner mark:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t57.jpg $55.00
  WP23 1" non-skewed rabbet with steeply pitched iron for harder
       woods; by Watson/Leeds, lightly used, all it needs is a
       honing; middle:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t60.jpg            $65.00
WP24 1/2" thumbnail by D.R.Barton; the classic profile for the
tops of six board chests, table edges, etc., it knocks
the sharp corner off those with a quarter round; as found,
normal knocks and dings, the heel has a couple deeper
dings, those aren't checks; will make a fine worker, face
of the iron needs a polishing:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t78.jpg            $90.00
WP25 1" (depth of cut) quirk ovolo, fillet, cove, and astragal
by E.Baldwin; a nice profile that's 1 1/4" wide, it's
free of modification; oiled long ago, face of iron is
bright, very shallow and stable check at heel doesn't
hinder its use:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t79.jpg           $125.00
WP26 18th century cornice plane for restoration; made of yellow
birch, flat chamfers with rounded wedge, the offset tote
split at its base and was lost; 13 1/2" long, iron 3 1/4"
wide, the cut is the common ogee, square, reverse ogee;
normal checking at heel and toe, some chipping on base,
it won't take too much effort to make this a fine plane;
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t117.jpg
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t117a.jpg         $120.00
WP27 7/8" skewed dado with nicker by W.G.Lamb/New Bedford, an
uncommon maker and brother of J.Lamb, the New Bedford, MA
makers produced some of the best wooden planes; as found,
in fine worker shape, no owner marks, minor stains; bottom
right:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t118.jpg          $70.00
WP28 Slender 21 1/2" hollowing plane (round sole); made of yellow
birch and with flat chamfers, it's a unique plane that is
only 1 1/4" wide; in fine shape, I haven't a clue what its
function is; middle:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t121.jpg          $85.00
WP29 Three squirrel tail coachmaker's rabbet planes; two by
Griffiths/Norwich, one with just an owner mark (though
probably professionally made); each in fine shape, the soles
are curved to work the complex rabbets found on coaches (and
sash, stairs, etc.); two with 1 1/4" wide irons, one has its
sole curved from toe to heel over its length, the other tapers
toe to heal along the sides, these two planes are especially
clean; other is 1 1/8" wide and tapers toe to heal along the
sides, the sole was trued and shows some tearout; all fine
workers; top three:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t122.jpg          $125.00
WP30 Six patternmaker's rounds by Griffiths/Norwich; odd that
a professional maker would offer these to a trade that
normally made their own stuff, these are very rare; in fine
shape, and in a custom storage box, the irons range in width
from 1/2" to 1 1/8"; owner mark, 7" long, perfect for use or
for collecting; bottom:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t122.jpg          $185.00
WP31 Odd cove and ogee by Griffiths/Norwich; the two profiles
have a noticeable vertical separation to make a pleasing
form; as found, wedge replaced, owner mark, I suspect this
is a very early rework of another profile as there is box-
ing where the cove meets the stop; lots of layout lines,
it's in sound worker shape, it cuts 7/8" deep by 3/4" wide;
some screw holes on left side from an auxiliary fence:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t123.jpg          $125.00
WP32 Another odd profile, a large astragal, fillet, and smaller
astragel; by Griffiths/Norwich, it works 1/2" deep by 1"
wide; owner mark, 3/8" of boxing at the heel is replaced,
it's in sound worker shape; photographed with iron exposed
to give an accurate view of the cut:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t124.jpg          $145.00
WP33 Pair of snipe bills by Tucker London; a bargain pair as
one has had its boxing reworked, it will still function
to cut the quirk, the other is fine; top two:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t135.jpg          $85.00
WP34 pre-Revolution table joint plane; the early style used on
best quality furniture, it cuts a simple semicircular groove
along the edge, the mating plane (long parted company) cuts
the male member of the joint; with this plane, it's easy to
make the mating plane; made of yellow birch, flat chamfers,
11" long, early initials stamped in toe, and in fine shape
given its age; very difficult to find, not many were used
during that era; bottom:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t135.jpg
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t135a.jpg        $175.00
WP35 Owner made chamfer plane; made of mahogany, with a sliding
box to set the width of cut; as found, a worker, the cutter
is original to the plane, he stole it from a #45; bottom

WP36 Jo.Fuller/Providence 1/2" old style bead; yellow birch,
relieved wedge, flat chamfers, 10" long, a never mucked with
 example from his middle period; early initials owner stamp;
a sound worker for those who want to recreate the period
look of ca.1790; bottom:

MS10 Cast iron wood-clad tote for wooden planes; can be used on

MS19 E.A.Bushnell June 19, 1866 patent horseshoe calk sharpener;
a strange gizmo that would garner 1000 guesses what it's for
from 10 people, the online patent records have the final
say; designed to grind the projections on a horseshoe for
better grip, the patent states that the shoe can remain on
the hoof while using this contraption, it remains to be seen
if the horse has any say during the grinding as Mr.Ed was
turned into dog food and glue long ago; as found, no damage,
 in normal left-in-the-barn-for-over-a-century condition, all
 things move; roughly 16" long, it can't be common, it's the

       it's one I can't recall seeing before, it has Durpy's
       Patent Bailey & Co. cast into it; the common form of a
       hinged design that's set with a screw driver, perhaps this
       is the design that was later copied by many other makers
       as its simple to use and construct design excelled when
       compared to more complex efforts; well made, internal
       spring strong, good mass, it mounts flush to the bench
       surface; top right:

       small bun is slightly domed and has not been reworked;
       lots of mass, 2" wide parallel iron, the mouth has been
       opened slightly at one corner, the lever cap moved (a
       common thing when a better iron replaced an lesser one);
       good patina, normal knocks in the casting, this is a very
       nice owner-made plane that's of a finer quality than is
       typical; left:

  MS99 Norris No.A51 cast smoothing plane; fit with the desirable
       adjuster, original Norris iron with plenty of life left
       to it, walnut bun and tote, most maroon finish, and un-
       common 2" wide iron; can be honed and used as is, a bit
       of roughness to the finish on the tote, where it joins
       the casting, there probably was an owner mark there that
       was rubbed out, and then the second owner stamped the
       other side; a very nice plane that works very well, they
       get no respect from the dovetail crowd for no good reason;

  MS100 Early bearded axe with older handle; a side axe, the work-

        closer to the hand, which gives better feedback during use;
        7" long, stamped "LI", the head shows normal axe pitting,
        the back can be polished flat or left as is and sharpened,
        it's not a surgeon's tool; handle waxed, and shows wear,
       it looks as if it's been with it for some time; top:

        found and never messed with condition, the only apology is
        some minor loss on the top horn from a small chip and wear;

MS124 Bowie-style knife made by Les Rigden of Brighton, England;
Rigden, a maker of bicycle frames and a collector of
Sussex billhooks (billhooks are high art in England and
those knowledgeable of them can tell you the village and
smith who made them), made this knife some 30 years ago,
it was recently acquired from his estate; well made and
signed by him on the spine, I suspect he used an old
blade and reworked it to follow the form of the handle;
some minor pit spots offer some proof that it's an older
blade; 16 1/2" long, lots of mass, good balance, and
lightly cleaned; bottom:

the japanning, it saw limited use, it's claimed to bore
the hardest spokes like butter; less common than other

at a time when machines were turning round tenons on
spokes, rungs, etc.; everything adjusts as it should,
original depth stop, works a range of diameters by turning

square (by Standard Tool), plumb bob, punch, nail set,

very minor chip at back of mouth, and definitely one worth
sourcing an iron to put in it; were I still collecting

MS162 Union No.60 adjustable scraper; a copy of the Stanley #12,
it's much less common than the Stanley and is one of the
Union production's least common tools; as found, normal
cosmetic condition, minor scratches in sole, no cutter;
it's my theory that Stanley set up its crosstown New
Britain, CT manufacturer in the tool biz as a test to see
if a second line of tools would find favor in the market,
Stanley ultimately bought the company; left:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t126.jpg          $90.00

MS168 3" slick with short old handle; as found, in need of a
clean, I don't see any maker mark, there may be one under
the crud; 15 1/2" overall length; some pitting may be
under the grime, most slicks suffer that, but nothing
that should prevent it from being a good worker; bottom:

MS169 Massive stuffed panel plane; a #5 1/2 on steroids, it's
12 1/2" long with a 2 3/4" wide iron, you'll need (or
develop) real muscle pushing this beast; parallel iron
forms a very fine mouth, a rectangular brass bridge
secures the wedge that has a molding plane finial worked
on it; comfortable closed tote, the stuffing is beech;
after a clean, this will make a great worker for planing
wood and keeping horses put; bottom:

two different diameters augers, the carriage can be flipped
over to select the desired diameter; a solid worker at a
price considerably less than the Millers Falls:

gouge cut to terminate them; standard try squares are around,
but miter squares aren't; right:

fairly sharp; top:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t144.jpg        $155.00
MS186 Simonds $2.50 No.61 7pt ripsaw; a very nice saw, the
enameled button is 2.50, which was the saw's cost long
ago; many consider these the best saws made in America,
this one is very clean, still fairly sharp, 26" long, nib
present, a stable check in the handle about the bottom
nut; bottom:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t144.jpg        $185.00
MS187 Pair of 1" corner chisels; each without handles, one by
Witherby, other unmarked, they both are as found and will
benefit from a clean, which they will do so very well;
ideal when you loan one and never get it back from your
former BFF; top two:
          http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t146.jpg         $85.00
MS188 #49 size match plane, the No.42 by Union; works just like

flat chamfers that terminate in lamb's tongue detail, yellow
birch, relieved wedge, and never messed with; owner mark,
nice original surface, cuts 1 1/8" wide; bottom right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t80.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t80a.jpg $225.00
GW4 Lie-Nielsen #6 fore plane with original exotic wood handles
that I believe are East Indian rosewood; little used, dusty
from sitting, free of damage; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t81.jpg $290.00
GW5 Four Ashley Iles fishtail carving chisels; extra wide ones,

one (with Chris Pye name on it) saw limited used; chisels
have wax coating at edge, widths are 2", 2 3/8", and 2 3/4",

 are available new; bottom four:

GW6 Bridge City TB-3 sliding bevel; little used, there is some
old masking tape on one side, the blade has a few tarnish
spots; 12" blade, I don't believe it's offered new; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t82.jpg $115.00
GW7 Pair of Bridge City sliding bevels, the TB-5 and TB-6;
both are signature series from 2002 and 2003, latter is

Kell; both probably unused, with tarnish from sitting;
bottom middle two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t82.jpg $75.00
GW9 Pair of Woodpeckers gap gauges; with instructions, made in
2013, how woodworking survived for 2000+ years without
these is amazing; standard and mini sizes, it's now retired
and you may have to wait another 2000+ years for them to be
made again; bottom right two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t82.jpg $80.00
GW10 Holtey copy of the Norris No.A7 adjustable shoulder plane;
a faithful copy, with the same adjuster used on the bench
planes, the wedge is secured with a thumb screw that bears
upon a bushing inlaid on the wedge; barely used, made better
than what Norris made (and Norris didn't make many), 1 1/4"
wide, it can be honed and used as is; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t83.jpg $2685.00
GW11 Graduated set of seven joiner's mortice chisels by Ashley
Iles; several unused, they are made just like the classic
pigstickers of yore; widths of 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16",
3/8", 7/16", and 1/2", all of which are the standard widths
found on the originals; hone 'em and start sticking wood
or swine; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t83.jpg $585.00
GW12 Ebony screw arm plough plane by Greenfield Tool Co.; model
No.521, the fence, body, and wedge are jet black ebony
while the arms, washers, and nuts are boxwood; a nice plane,
some tool dealer stitched the gentleman with this plane as
arms, nuts, and washers are not Greenfield (this proves you
must be careful with who's selling tools); they are from
a NY or OH maker, and while of the same vintage, they are
replacements as the originals likely stripped; dusty and
grungy from sitting the shop, it will clean nicely to be
a fine worker and display piece in your shop:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t84.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t84a.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t84b.jpg $385.00
GW13 Starrett No.359 and No.364 vernier protractor in original
hinged wooden case and with instructions; barely used,

one is a bargain in comparison; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t85.jpg $155.00
GW14 Four Alvin&Co metallic drafting triangles; great quality,
made in Germany, each different, there are two NS360 at 6"
and 10", and two NS345 at 6" and 10"; three with labels,
I don't know if these are still made; bottom four:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t85.jpg $165.00
GW15 Pair of rule joint planes by E.Baldwin; the gentleman
never would have admitted to being a collector, but any-
one who owned three pairs of rule joint planes is exactly
that, a collector; barely used, the common size of 5/8",
the plane cut the cool joint found on drop leaf tables;
top two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t86.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t86a.jpg $285.00
GW16 Jo.Fuller (very weak mark) quirk ogee and astragal; from
Fuller's middle period, with all the common details used
during that time save for one, it's made of beech rather
than yellow birch; cuts 3/4" deep by 7/8" wide, it's as
found, never messed with, dusty/dirty from sitting, dry
surface, minor checking at heel, 225+ year old wood tends
to do that; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t86.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t86b.jpg $195.00
GW17 Lie-Nielsen #3 smoothing plane; little used, dried crud on

2001, minor tarnish, 5" long; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t88.jpg $85.00
GW21 Tite-Mark extravaganza of four gauges and lots of parts in
packets; so much here, it makes me ill thinking about
deciphering it all; Christmas in February here; bottom
left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t88.jpg $285.00
GW22 Bridge City DG-2 depth gauge; another can't buy it new any-
more tool, this one is dusty and has tarnish, it spent more
time probing great depths alone than it ever did under human
control; right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t88.jpg $125.00
GW23 Tyzack router; a copy of the Preston, but in the bright
red finish; little used, single cutter, the cutter and
and knobs can be swapped around to configure it in three
ways; cutter collar is a replacement from a #71; there
was a time, not too long ago, when people would pay you
10 quid to take it from them, but now it's lambs to the
slaughter due to web videos, had you gobbled every one
in existence, you'd be a trillionaire by now; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t89.jpg $185.00
GW24 Lee-Valley bull nose rabbet plane; maybe used once, iron
sharp, some superficial rust will quickly clean though it
can be used as is; bottom left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t89.jpg $155.00
GW25 Bronze reproduction Odd Jobs by Simpson Machine Tool Co.;
probably unused and ready to go, it fits wooden rules, the
#62 is a good one to use; seems odd that a tool that never
sold too well originally is now reproduced, maybe we know
better than the old timers did; bottom right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t89.jpg $35.00
GW26 Lie-Nielsen No.1 smoothing plane; barely used, minor tarnish
and some dried crud on iron; left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t90.jpg $195.00
GW27 Lee-Valley pencil sharpener; a modern copy of an old patent,
LV named it the Little Shaver; little used, with more shop
dust than pencil shavings in it, and like the original,
this one is now extinct new; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t90.jpg $65.00
GW28 Pair of bronze squirrel tail planes, the #100 and #100 1/2
sold by Woodcraft; odd how bronze is all the rage for new
planes when it wasn't too long ago; little used, they are
 copies of what Stanley offered, but in a more sensible
version, cast iron; bottom right two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t90.jpg $115.00
GW29 Small miter jack; clamps a piece of mitered (by saw) wood
in the chops, a plane/chisel does the final truing by
sliding along the face of the chops; an unusual size, it's
owner made, like most are (regardless of size), it shows
normal signs of use; roughly 12" overall length; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t91.jpg $85.00
GW30 Pair of Grammercy Tools (aka Tools For Working Wood)
'gents' saws; these aren't the Pax saws currently offered,
they each have a thick milled spine neatly fit to the
turned exotic wood handle; blade lengths of 6" and 7 1/2",
look to be fine quality and barely used; middle two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t91.jpg $115.00
GW31 Bridge City DC-40 dividing compass; no longer produced,
with owner initials, tarnish on some areas of brass and
steel points, it should clean well to be a fine worker;
bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t91.jpg $185.00
GW32 Clifton hollow (concave) face spoke shave; a bulky tool
that employs the tried and true Preston mechanism to set
the 2" wide cutter; little used, general tarnish; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t92.jpg $80.00
GW33 A similar shave to the previous, but the lighter version
by Lee Valley, it employs the two screw adjustment to the
1 1/2" wide cutter; looks unused; middle:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t92.jpg $85.00
GW34 Modern copy of the Millers Falls No.1 circular shave; I
this is a Kelly, it looks unused; a well made tool that
works tight curvatures; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t92.jpg $85.00
GW35 Bridge City TB-4 complimentary angle bevel; made long ago
by Stanley, it never sold well back then, today the "one of
each" BCT fans want 'em; no longer produced, owner initials
in the brass, it's probably the cleanest of all BCT stuff on
this list; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t93.jpg $80.00
GW36 Pair of different Bridge City saddle squares, one the
SS-@X4 and SS-DT (odd numbers that sound more like WWII
waffenpanzerstukastuffen than they do tools); no longer
produced, one has two tapered ends for dovetail layout;
tarnish spots; bottom left two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t93.jpg $135.00
GW37 Pair of Veritas Hold-Fast sliding bevels; a design first
produced by Southington Hardware of Southington, CT, it's
a simple yet easy to use design that quickly locks the
blade at the desired angle; when the mechanism loosens,
the screw tightens it; blades of 4" amd 10", little used;
this bevel is now extinct in the Lee Valley hall of fame;
right two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/feb/t93.jpg $80.00
