If you have questions about what the Stanley numbers are, you can
look the planes up on Blood&Gore:

http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan0.htm

Sometimes, emails to/from me are vectored to some cyber black
hole, never reaching their destination. I answer all emails, so if
you haven't heard from me, your/my email is likely having high tea
in said black hole, never to be heard from, so please try again.

Please email me prior to sending money so that you can be sure
the item is still up for grabs. Also, prices do not include shipping,
which is the amount that it takes to go from me to you via the US
Post Office.

This list goes out to many people, normally on the first of the
month (unless otherwise noted above). So, if you see something you
want, it's the quickest finger on the trigger that wins the duel.

Some folks become upset that they miss out on a tool. I wish I had
lots of this stuff many times over so I can satisfy the demand, but
that is normally not the case. Some of it does have duplicates here,
and if so, I will state that in my reply to you.

Also, due to the nature of selling over the wires, tools are sold
on a first come, first serve basis. The first person to say "I'll
take it", gets it. I have to operate this way as some will take a
few days to get back to me with their interest in a particular item,
and it's unfair to keep others waiting who are willing to buy the
item immediately.

I reserve the right to correct typographical errors after the list
goes out. I rarely make them, but when I do they can be major ones.

If you're the kind of person who puts a straightedge to the sole of
a #40, to check it for flatness, or who tosses a plane on a scale to
weigh it against what it states in the Stanley catalogs, you'll need
to take your business elsewhere. I'll wish you luck finding perfection
in something that was never made, nor intended to be, perfect. You guys
know who you are, and it's best for both of us that our paths not cross.

Remember, you don't have to be a connoisseur (did I spell that
correctly) to shop here. You can be a wirehead, a metalhead, a propeller-
head, a deadhead, a cokehead, or even a knuckle dragging oaf, just like
me, to shop here, as long as your dinero is green.

Thanks for shopping, and remember that no letters or words were
injured when writing this list...

FEATURED TOOL OF THE MONTH
******** **** ** *** *****

FT1 The best 14" Birmingham T-rabbet plane extant; a very un-
common size in any condition, it's unheard of in used
very carefully and put away condition; out of the Inner
Sanctum, and being offered reluctantly as another Packard
is barking at us, it's the model with the cutter adjust-
ment lever, which, itself, is uncommon on all sizes as
most didn't have this feature; remnants of an original
label at the heel, rarity and excellent condition are not
easy to find for any collectible, like all the stuff that
finds its way into the Inner Sanctum, it's exactly how it
was found:

sweetheart label and no separation, which is uncommon for
larger plane boxes; iron's hardness test is April, 1940,

don't detract; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t99.jpg $235.00

can't figure this pair out as at first glance they appear
to be for sash, but they aren't as the double iron plane's
iron meet each other, perhaps they are used at the meeting
rail to create a finer joint to minimize air infiltration
there; always together, and by the same maker, the coping
plane isn't stamped, its fence is removable; little used,
an auxiliary fence was tacked onto the right side of the
double iron plane; for certain a rare pair; top two:

WP16 Adjustable panel raiser; with a moveable fence to set the
working width, a wedged nicker to make a crisp field, and
a skewed iron to work any grain direction, it has a shallow
bevel and is fine for most applications; 12" long, with
a strike button, it's very well made but only with owner
mark; top:

http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t65a.jpg $175.00
WP17 3/8" square ovolo by T.Tileston/Boston; a notable maker
whose quality is unsurpassed, never altered or cleaned,
still with some shavings in the throat from the last time
it was used, one side of the wedge was skimmed so it
fits better in its mortice, this was done due the body
shrinking a bit:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t78.jpg $90.00
WP18 3/8" astragal by T.Tileston/Boston; found with previous,
the two planes started out in the same shop and managed
to remain together for some 200 years; free of modification
and fine shape, it and the previous are good size for
cabinetwork:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t79.jpg $90.00
WP19 #16 hollow and round pair by Moseley&Sons; little used, with
owner mark; top two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t80.jpg $75.00
WP20 Graduated set of eight beads by Routledge/Birmingham; always
together, with same owner mark, dry surfaces, as found, the
sizes are 1/8", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8" (old chip
at heel of boxing), and 1":
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t81.jpg $210.00
WP21 N.Nutting massive 1 1/2" deep quirk ovolo; likely a custom
order, it saw very little use, it's a rare profile by an
uncommon maker; some harmless stable checks:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t82.jpg $185.00
WP22 3/4" ogee by Summers Varvill; never cleaned, perfect size
for today's stock, owner mark, a small bruise at the fence's
heel has no bearing on its use:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t83.jpg $115.00
WP23 Odd large torus bead and ogee, which almost seems smothered
by the bead; by Buck, it measures 1 5/8" wide; as found,
never cleaned or modified, boxing roughness at the heel,
owner mark:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t84.jpg $145.00
WP24 3/4" torus bead, cove, and bead by Fairclough; an uncommon
profile, nicely cleaned, with hole for helper handle at the
toe, nice proportions:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t85.jpg $155.00
WP25 Deep cove and bead by T.Tileston/Boston/Front St.; cuts
1 1/4" deep, it's a profile used below a mantle shelf or
similar; little used, owner mark, one side of the wedge
was planed long ago as the body shrunk a bit too much
around it; a very nice and uncommon plane:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t86.jpg $185.00
WP26 1/2" quirk ogee by Winstead Plane Co.; little used, good
proportions:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t93.jpg $115.00
WP27 23" shipwright's jointer made of lignum; with ancestry
that may have a lead ingot in the family tree, this thing
is extremely heavy for its size; razee body, the tote,
which has a harmless chip off the horn, looks to be beech,
the makers of these planes often mixed hardwoods, no two
are alike; stamped in the toe "A.Lincoln", it's not that
one, but another who worked coastal New England; 2 1/4"
double iron by Moulson, it's odd that its maker inlet a
lignum piece at the mouth; large chunks of lignum ex-
perience 'seismic' activity where splits/checks happen,
this one didn't escape that; nevertheless, this is a nice
plane with a great appearance; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t99.jpg $165.00
WP28 Odd pair of toted 1" match planes by Reed/Utica; the
tonguing plane has two irons, mouths, and throats, at the
sole a brass piece separates the two; the grooving plane's
steel skate is neatly filed below the tote's opening so
that it doesn't interfere with gripping it; little used,
no owner mark, a lot of effort was put into these; sound
workers that can cut the tongue and groove joint in 7/8"
to 1 1/4" thick stock; if you collect unusual wooden
planes, you'll like these; left:

the tongue and groove joint, they are perfect for finer
work; barely used, with owner mark; top two:

WP30 1/16" bead by T.Turner/Sheffield; a rare size, I can't re-
call seeing one in the past; fully boxed sole, barely used,
with owner mark; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t102.jpg $145.00
WP31 #2 hollow and round pair by Malloch/Perth; barely used,

top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t103.jpg $95.00

with owner mark, found with previous; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t103.jpg $95.00

a lot of profiles in a compact size, it cuts 1/2" (or
thicker) stock; a fence was added to make it easier to
work, the plane was nicely cleaned, some typical hammer
marks on heel from backing the iron off:

MS100 Unusual larger frame brace; with a 'slotted' forging ad-
jacent to the chuck, this must have served some purpose
though I'm at a loss for what that is; large turned
head, shapely wing nut to secure the auger, it measures
17" overall; in sound shape, wooden plug in head fell
out long ago; left:

MS107 Scott's "end wood and miter plane"; one of the few planes
of its kind made in the US, the bronze casting has a
nicely molded bun, this one different from standard as it
has a bronze band surrounding the bun, a feature I haven't
seen before on this uncommon plane; exotic wood wedge was
split and glued, there a small amount of missing wood on
the finial, the heel shows knocks from backing the iron
and wedge off; fortunately, the plane hasn't been modified
or, worse, polished; good mass, and made in Cincinnati,
Ohio during ca.1890; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t67.jpg $490.00
MS108 Holt's Patent 12" sweep brace; a better design than the

auger in place; as found, will clean to be a fine worker;

MS113 A pair of two unrelated (at first glance) tools; a small
nail puller that fits in the claw hammer and made by
Goodell Pratt; and a very clean 2" Brown&Sharpe try square;
both ready to use, they are perfect for the fastidious
thoughts rattling around in your prefrontal cortex, where
machinist's tolerances meet woodworking, when driving a
nail/brad you decide to use the square to verify whether
it's perfectly perpendicular to the surface, and if not,
the nail puller can yank it and you get a mulligan to have
another go at perfection; left two:

MS115 Odd W.M.Keague March 25, 1864 (not a valid patent date)
patent crating tool; one I've never seen before, it has
a claw, adze, and hammer face on the forging, with a
wooden handle, for an overall length of 14 1/2"; with
name and date stamped in it, it's as found, and looks
to be in sound condition, even more so it certainly can
be used as a lethal weapon due to its similarity to a
shillelagh, perhaps Keague (an Irish surname) was
familiar with this weapon either from owning one or
taking one (too many) to the head as inspiration for its
creation; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t74.jpg $135.00

never reach it, but if so it can be polished out as it's
shallow; nice balance on this above average edge tool;

it has a bend over its 8 1/2" length; and a decorative
knife with different colors to the blade and handle (came
from different animals), it's 7 1/4"; both are guaranteed
to be pre-WWII, they likely are made by bored sailors
aboard ships for the friends/family; bottom two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t89.jpg $185.00
MS126 Finely made countersink with turned handle; no doubt used
by a skilled tradesman, perhaps a gunsmith, the forging
is turned nicely, 6 1/4" overall, perhaps a record price
here for a lowly tool, but it's worth every penny; bottom
right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t91.jpg $75.00
MS127 Veritas scraping plane, their reinterpretation of the
Stanley #112; out of a working shop, still caked with the
evidence of origin, it saw careful use; free of damage,
it's fit with a Lie-Nielsen blade, which may create a
tear in the tooltime continuum, it nevertheless fits it
well; top:

MS140 Large format book, "The Gentleman & Cabinet-Maker's
Directory by Thomas Chippendale; published 1938 by Towse
Publishing Co. of New York, the influential work, first
published in 1754 London, this is a copy of the third
edition of 1762; pages of plates that had a major impact
on cabinetmaking, his designs still find favor today,
many of America's greatest pieces of furniture owe their
'simplified' designs to Chippendale; from a library, it's
structurally sound, though showing normal wear on the cover;
12 1/2" by 18", it has introductory pages devoted to the
classic column orders, where a column's diameter is the
basis for proportions, moldings, and all the supporting
details, the cabinetmakers of this era until ca.1850 based
their work on these fundamentals; many pages at the back
of the book advertise furniture by companies that offered
designs of Chippendale:

has no bearing on its use; bottom:

MS142 Uncommon pull shave embossed "ALEXANDER BROS"; can't recall
seeing this one before, it a solid tool fit with a 2" wide

'elevation' relative to the sole; top:

MS143 Cooper's shave with cutter clamp embossed "P.SULLIVAN";
another one I can't recall seeing before, the design is
typical of those made around Nashua, NH, perhaps Sullivan
owned a larger cooperage and had these made for him;
16 1/2" long casting carrying a 2 1/2 wide cutter, there's
no japanning, it likely had that coating when new; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jan/t110.jpg $120.00
MS144 Cherry burl from our too many trees property here at the
tool crib, it made itself known while cutting firewood;

MS145 Disston eight foot two-man crosscut saw with its original
wooden shipping slab that's stenciled with Disston name as
well as Adams Hardware and Paint of Lowell, Mass; as found
in a barn, the side photographed has usual rust from
sitting, it's been randomly decorated not with paint, but
bird droppings which should be proof enough that it
actually was found in a barn; the side facing the wood is
in nicer shape, free of avian poo, and should clean fairly
well, some of the original etching is visible, I couldn't
get a good photograph of that; once these saws top six
feet, they become much less common, finding one with its
original slab of wood is even more so; this can be de-
livered to York, PA, Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA area, and
Columbia, SC area, or picked up at the open pit tool mine
 in MA:
