If you have questions about what the Stanley numbers are, you can
look the planes up on Blood&Gore:

http://www.supertool.com/StanleyBG/stan0.htm

Sometimes, emails to/from me are vectored to some cyber black
hole, never reaching their destination. I answer all emails, so if
you haven't heard from me, your/my email is likely having high tea
in said black hole, never to be heard from, so please try again.

If there is anything in particular that you're after, do ping me
as there is a lot of stuff here that isn't on the list; the list
just represents a snapshot of the previous month's haul with none
of the stuff having appeared on a previous list. I like to keep
things fresh here.

Please email me prior to sending money so that you can be sure
the item is still up for grabs. Also, prices do not include shipping,
which is the amount that it takes to go from me to you via the US
Post Office.

This list goes out to many people, normally on the first Monday
of the month (unless otherwise noted above). So, if you see something
you want, it's the quickest finger on the trigger that wins the duel.

Some folks become upset that they miss out on a tool. I wish I had
lots of this stuff many times over so I can satisfy the demand, but
that is normally not the case. Some of it does have duplicates here,
and if so, I will state that in my reply to you.

Also, due to the nature of selling over the wires, tools are sold
on a first come, first serve basis. The first person to say "I'll
take it", gets it. I have to operate this way as some will take a
few days to get back to me with their interest in a particular item,
and it's unfair to keep others waiting who are willing to buy the
item immediately.

I reserve the right to correct typographical errors after the list
goes out. I rarely make them, but when I do they can be major ones.

If you're the kind of person who puts a straightedge to the sole of
a #40, to check it for flatness, or who tosses a plane on a scale to
weight it against what it states in the Stanley catalogs, you'll need
to take your business elsewhere. I'll wish you luck finding perfection
in something that was never made, nor intended to be, perfect. You guys
know who you are, and it's best for both of us that our paths not cross.

Lastly, and I don't like to mention this, but if you tell me that
money is on the way for something you want, and you never make good
on it, we won't be doing business in the future. It's unfair, actually
downright discourteous, to others who want the same thing, and I tell
them it's sold. Pull this on me, and you're exorcised from the list.
Sorry, but I don't tolerate this behavior well at all.

Don't forget the cool new tools that I'm making - a jazzy layout
knife being used by professionals (made the cover of Feb.1998 FWW!),
a detachable block plane handle designed to fit your standard pitch
block planes, a killer Robinson's Improved Patent sliding bevel, a
tilting jaw for your Emmert's vise, and the finest bench plane in
production today, the Bed Rock #601. You can see it all at:

Remember, you don't have to be a connoisseur (did I spell that
correctly) to shop here. You can be a wirehead, a metalhead, a zipper-
head, a propellerhead, a deadhead, a cokehead, or even a knuckle
dragging oaf, just like me, to shop here, as long as your dinero is
green.

Thanks for shopping, and remember that no letters or words were
injured when writing this list...

FEATURED TOOL OF THE MONTH
******** **** ** *** *****

FT1 The Marianas maw, a ravenous and bottomless pit, aka our
seventeen year old son, was feeling a bit peckish and
decided some pepper jack cheese would satiate his hunger
pangs for about 15 minutes; realizing his mother used the
grater for some gruyere and hadn't washed it, he dove in
hands first to grab a plane from the Inner Sanctum as he
 remembered there is such a thing as a cheese plane;
selecting one that he thought was the closest thing to a
cheese plane, he has in hand a Birdsill Holly's 1852
Patent smoothing plane; one can hardly fault the famished
youth for choosing it as the sole of this plane is unlike
any other with its dimpled 'corrugations' offered as a
marketing feature to cut down resistance during use (the
boy must have thought using the plane would make the cheese
slide from his mouth to his belly faster); Holly's Patent
was one of the first to offer friction reducing soles to
make the arduous task of planing wood, formally measured
in board miles, easier; his idea wasn't offered on the
initial production of the plane, it evolved over time
resulting in the series of 'dimples' along and across the
sole; in as fine, never messed with condition, as such a
plane can be, it's ready for a serious collection of tool
ideas that seemed brilliant at the time but ultimately
proved to be another notable reject on woodworking's
rotten tomato list:

here for your plane, it's well worth the money as it's
apparent that the original wooden handle was used as the
pattern; top:

ST72 #151 spoke shave; a very clean made in England example with
all original parts, most decal on casting, minor superficial
rust, it saw barely any use; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t100.jpg $40.00
ST73 American made #90J bull nose rabbet; iron and lever cap
with the US markings, this plane is much less common than
the English production, where it proved to be much more
popular than here in the US; a very clean example, ready
for your one of each Stanley plane collection; bottom

ST74 #39 1/4" dado; as found worker with all original parts, no
damage, normal cosmetic wear; the narrowest of the series;
top:

ST75 #607C corrugated Bed Rock jointer; a ca.WWI model with all
original parts, V-logo on iron, "BED ROCK" embossed lever
cap, it saw limited use, but is dusty/dirty from sitting;
will clean to be much nicer than usual examples; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t104.jpg $190.00
ST76 #4C corrugated smoothing plane; early 1930's production
with ca.1915 iron, as found, sound worker condition, tall
knob shows normal checks as base as it predates the raised
ring; decal remnants on tote, lightly cleaned; right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t107.jpg $75.00
ST77 #750 1/4" bevel edge chisel with original leather tip
handle; little used, with tarnish from sitting, it's not
the usual dog found at the bottom of a drywall compound
bucket; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t107.jpg $40.00
ST78 #2 first lateral frog and its proper J-logo iron and cap
iron stamped with the patent date; no lever cap, a couple
of good parts that can be put on any of the earlier castings;
top left two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t108.jpg $80.00
ST79 Bull nose casting for the #72 chamfer plane; a part that
was offered as standard on the later production of the
plane, it's normally long gone and hard to find, the lever
cap, iron, and screw are swapped among the two sections as
needed; like both castings, they were linished with the
main casting, each plane being somewhat customized, this
one will fit all planes but the cheeks will likely be a
but offset from the main casting, something that has no
bearing at all on the plane's function; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t108.jpg $145.00
ST80 #1 trammel points with their original pencil clasp; the
second production with the crosshatched castings, each
has red paint as an owner identification; the smallest
size of the trio Stanley offered; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t108.jpg $70.00
ST81 #200 honing jig; all parts, no damage, it can take plane
irons and chisels to hold them steady as they are rubbed
over the stone; pitch is adjusted by turning the roller to
the desired position; a solid worker; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t110.jpg $55.00
ST82 #151R round sole spoke shave; later UK production, only in
need of a honing, barely used, sole is curved toe to heel;
top; right:

ST83 UK Stanley catalogs including a price list and an uncommon
1922 #34, which, oddly, doesn't feature the #4 1/2H or
#5 1/2H; all three in sound shape, they show just how deter-
mined Stanley was to dominate the UK tool market; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t111.jpg $75.00
ST84 #144 3/8" rounding plane; one of the more homely products
from New Britain, with all original parts, normal japanning
loss, sweetheart iron, it'll do the job it was designed to
do - round corners with a 3/8" radius; middle:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t118.jpg $120.00
ST85 #135A spiral ratchet screw driver; never out of the original
box and with all packing material, it's a very popular tool
for making screws behave; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t119.jpg $75.00
ST86 Three #40 Everlasting bevel edge chisels; each as found and
in sound worker shape, widths of 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4",
longest is 9"; bottom right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t119.jpg $120.00
ST87 #923 8" sweep brace; a very clean and ready to use worker,
it saw minimal use; nearly all original finish, a hint of
tarnish on the shell, it's a solid example of Stanley's
best selling first quality brace that has spring jaws,
full ratchet, and ball bearing head; a good size for normal
and finer work; right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t120.jpg $95.00
ST88 #7 jointer; a ca.1910 example in as found condition with
all original parts; this one sat for decades and developed
the superficial rust that occurs in an unheated area, it
saw very little use, japanning is 90%; good wood, full
length iron, there looks to be an area of corrosion on the
right cheek; will make a solid worker after a clean; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t121.jpg $145.00
ST89 #359 miter box and matching saw; a clean top of the line
worker with the adjustable stop and its rods (below the
bed, where stored when not in use); the Atkins saw is 26"
long; sliding pegs for contact against curved work, the only
thing missing is the release clamp that frees the saw from
its uppermost position when placing wood on the wooden table
(this piece does show up or you can roll your own), the flat
steel bar that spans the two posts is MIA, any junior high
shop student can make it; a fine quality worker, I'm not
keen on shipping these things so collection at the open pit
tool mine is preferred, I can get it to central Michigan
mid-June and perhaps northern Ohio:

 WOOD PLANES
**** ******

WP1 Clean 3/8" double bead plane with fully boxed sole; made
by J.Kellogg/Amherst, this one saw very little use; owner
mark, it can cut a bead on both edges of the work as well
as reversing the plane when cutting a bead with the grain
when tear-out occurs; good size, far nicer than what's
normally found; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t4.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t4a.jpg $125.00
WP2 Rustic 1" square ovolo configured on a 14" long toted
body; with a crazy tote, made of beech, flat chamfers,
early round heel iron stamped with initials of its
maker, the thing has a ca.1800 look to it; never cleaned
or abused, it appears all original; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t18.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t18a.jpg $110.00
WP3 Another rustic plane, this a quirked ogee and astragal on
a 12" body; an early looking plane with owner/maker initials
of S*S, the chamfers run from toe along the length, but not
on the heel, it may have been cut down, more proof of that
is the heel is a bit blown out at the mortice; early
Newbould iron, it has been cut lengthwise, as was done when
an iron of a proper width was needed, it cuts a 7/8" profile;
primitive handle, an odd plane; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t18.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t18b.jpg $90.00
WP4 More from the Harrod pile, these and many of next planes
are out of a his cabinetshop; #10 skewed hollow and round
pair by Varvill; barely used, owner mark, nearly new con-
dition; top left pair:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t20.jpg $90.00
WP5 Clean Copeland&Co #5 hollow and round pair; barely used,
a perfect size for working #4 and #6 size profiles as the
eye can pick up the difference of 1/16" to either side of
this size; owner mark; top right pair:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t20.jpg $80.00
WP6 Clean H.Chapin #8 hollow and round pair; owner mark, barely
used, solid workers; bottom left pair:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t20.jpg $85.00
WP7 #2 hollow and round pair made by one of the previous makers
and with same owner mark; clean, the hollow was flattened,
you have the perfect solution for that, the round to put it
right; bottom right two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t20.jpg $70.00
WP8 7/8" (depth of cut) thumbnail by Thos.Appleton/Boston; a
barely used plane, still with shavings in throat when last
used, it cuts the nice detail found on the tops of blanket
chests, etc.; owner mark of "H", how the Harrod's marked
some of their tools:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t21.jpg $85.00
WP9 1/2" (depth of cut) broad cove and astragal; a ca.1800
manufactured plane with only an owner's mark, the profile
has unlimited uses; like all of the Harrod planes, it has
a dry surface and never was refinished; small splinter off
sole at toe, still a fine worker:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t22.jpg $90.00
WP10 Group of five ca.1800 molders all made by the same hand;
each with flat chamfers and made of beech, they have a
semi-Sleeper wedge; very well made, each usable, planes
are a 1/2" quirk ogee and astragal, a 7/8" (width) astragal,
a 1/4" old style bead, a #10 size hollow, and a 3/8" quirk
ogee with a sheared wedge finial; a nice group of workers:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t23.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t23a.jpg $255.00
WP11 7/8" toted match planes with steel plated fences for more
durable wear and accuracy; made by Thos.Appleton of Boston,
barely used, perfect for 3/4" to 1" tongue and groove work,
stamped with the Harrod "H", they don't come any nicer;
left pair:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t24.jpg $115.00
WP12 Pair of 3/8" match planes with steel plated fences; an
uncommon size for tongue and groove planes, they are
designed for thinner stock; very well made professional
quality, no maker mark, little used; steel plated examples
of this size are quite difficult to find; right pair:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t24.jpg $95.00
WP13 Mathieson No.100 5/8" (depth of cut) double iron quirk ogee
and bevel; odd that this one ended up in the Harrod shop,
it's in fine shape and not all greased and whizzed up like
so many of them are; owner mark, an auxiliary fence was
applied (with two small screws) do it could work thicker
stock, it's easily removed; a nice example; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t25.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t25a.jpg $110.00
WP14 Another Mathieson plane, this a 3/8" dado with the same
owner mark as previous; barely used and never messed with,
it will make a fine worker; bottom left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t25.jpg $85.00
WP15 Matching double iron sash and coping plane set by T.Tileston
Front St. Boston; ca.1820, it cuts the classic square ovolo
used for decades as the decorative treatment; always together,
never modified, a bit of normal breakout on the coping plane
due to the thinness of material on the left cheek, matching
pairs of this vintage are very difficult to find; a sash
marking gauge is tossed in with these, it didn't come with
these planes, it can be used as a pattern for making your
own; Tileston's stamp has a cove and astragal at each side
of it, contemporary Boston makes had similar treatment but
each with a different profile, which shows they had some
connection with each other; right pile:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t25.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t25b.jpg $345.00
WP16 M.Copeland plough plane with six irons; the simple US model
with slide arms and thumb screws to secure the fence at the
desired distance from the skate, countless planes of this
style were used to cut grooves; dry, free of modification,
dirty, it'll make a fine worker, normally the mortices in
the stock have shrunk a bit over time, they can be lightly
trimmed/sanded to make for freer movement; left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t26.jpg $125.00
WP17 Last of this run of Harrod planes for this list, a toted
13" moving fillister; no maker's mark, though it appears
manufactured, the adjustable fence sets the width of cut;
friction fit nicker iron scores the wood prior the skewed
iron doing its thing, this arrangement allows it to work
any grain direction; dry, dirty, a splinter at toe of
fence, it will make a fine worker; right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t26.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t26a.jpg $120.00
WP18 Matching pair of planes for working door frames; a double
iron one that cuts the square ovolo and the groove, the
coping plane makes easy work of the joint where rails
meet the stiles; owner made, I believe they were made by
Ralph Brendler, one of my earliest customers who was buying
stuff before most of you ever heard of the www, Ralph is a
gifted woodworker who is now a luthier and an all around
good bloke; made of beech, with ebony wedges and wear strips
on the fence, they look to be solid workers; impossible to
find antique pairs like these; bottom two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t27.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t27a.jpg $185.00
WP19 Mathieson adjustable sole panel raiser; the classic UK
smoothing plane length plane, it's free of modification
and solid worker shape, all it needs is a honing after
the Butcher iron was hollow ground; owner marks, maker's
mark not fully readable (enough is there to guarantee a
Mathieson product), 8 1/4" long, it can cut panels 1 1/4"
to 1 1/2" wide, a fairly standard range; normal bang marks
on heel from backing wedge out; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t39.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t39a.jpg $155.00
WP20 Three shorter smoothing planes; each 6" with single irons,
as found, and sound workers; an instant collection; top
right three:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t55.jpg $115.00
WP21 Fine pair of squirrel tail miniature fully boxed beading
planes; one cuts left, one cuts right, each works a 1/8"
bead; great quality, with a professional look, only owner
mark on each; 3 3/4" long, barely used, no damage, one
with a stain; these are one of the nicest pair of miniature
planes I've seen; middle two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t58.jpg $195.00
WP22 Mahogany and brass double side rabbet with removable nose
section (something I've never seen on this style of plane)
for stopped work; one of the nicest owner made example,
the British were obsessed with making their own chamfer
and side rabbet planes, it's obvious the maker of this
plane was obsessed with making the best as the work is
that of an infill maker with its precision; extra fine
mouth, the nose has a countersunk screw, surrounded by a
bushing, to secure it to the stock; 5" long, barely used,
the cutters only need a honing to put this back to work;
cuts left and right; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t59.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t59a.jpg $155.00
WP23 Lignum vitae 22" razee jointer, the standard shipwright's
configuration with the closed tote; countless examples of
this pattern were used along the New England coastline,
most are a combination of different woods, all have at
least one exotic, which, in this case, is the lignum body
and what appears to be a mahogany wedge, with possibly
apple tote; as found, it saw limited use, there are the
usual knocks and ding as well as the checks that lignum
is famous, those are stable, one is adjacent to the iron;
loads of mass, this thing will clean to be a striking
example and a fine worker, chunks of lignum this large
for a plane are not common; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t63.jpg $165.00
WP24 Razee smoothing plane with Alonzo Whiting/Worcester double
iron that features a bench plane as part of his stamp; as
found, 8" long, lignum strike button, it saw very little
use; seasonal movement made one cheek split, a bit of
glue will remedy that; this is worth the effort to bring
back to life, it probably was made by Addison Heald as it
has his lines and dimensions; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t63.jpg $75.00
WP25 Another shipwright's plane, this a 16" jack plane; stock
looks like live oak, but doesn't have the mass, the closed
tote is a nice red mahogany, the wedge is a pitiful replace-
ment, a new one out of ebony or rosewood (can snarf that
from old levels) will make this thing extra jazzy; in little
used condition, this one will make a great worker without
much effort; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t69.jpg $125.00
WP26 #8 HR pair by Greenslade; as found, original grungy finish,
free of alteration, skewed irons are free of rust; solid
workers; top two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t72.jpg $85.00
WP27 Clean toothing plane by Marples; still with decal remnants
on side and wedge, couple minor stains on sole, it was used
a few times and put away, the image fails to capture its
true condition, it's far nicer than what's normally found;
 2" iron; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t73.jpg $70.00
WP28 Pair of quarter rounds by Moseley with the uncommon location
stamp of Goswell Street; workers, free of modification, with
dark patina, one has a bit of softness to the wood at the
toe, something that can happen when planes wick moister, it's
still 100% a sound worker; quarter rounds are not commonly
found and compliment H&R's well; bottom two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t73.jpg $135.00
WP29 Pair of worker side rabbets by Lund/London; cleaned and
waxed, with owner mark, free of alteration, they are
handy planes for tweaking grooves, cleaning flats on
profiles made by HR's, etc. top two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t74.jpg $120.00
WP30 Matched set of seven bead planes by Varvill; extra clean
and barely used, diameters of 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8",
1/2", 5/8", and 3/4", all good sizes for cabinetwork;
always together, same owner stamp, if interested in the
three pair of match planes and the 16 HR's that came
with them (for extra cost), please let me know:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t77.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t77a.jpg $190.00
WP31 German moving fillister with sliding brass fence and stop;
does what the more expensive English wooden fillisters do
but for less money, it has nicker for scoring the grain to
yield crisper work; made by Famos, lignum boxing in the
applied hornbeam bottom, it's over-engineered as is often
the case for things made in that country; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t87.jpg $90.00
WP32 6" coffin smoother/compass plane with five interchangeable
soles; can be used for smoothing and for working four
different radii, the soles have applied dovetailed lugs
to engage the stock; as found, showing normal signs of use,
a wooden strike bottom on the heel is worn flat; right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t87.jpg $90.00
WP33 Badger plane used to cut larger rabbets; configured like a
jack plane, the skewed double iron is bedded so that the
right side is flush with the right edge of the stock; in
much nicer than usual condition, 17" long, by Routledge, a
small ding at one corner, handle needs to be glued back
into its mortice; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t111.jpg $95.00
WP34 3/8" square ovolo by retailed by Buck&Ryan; lightly used,
perfect of cabinetwork, free of alteration, no owner mark,
normal bang marks on heel:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t115.jpg $60.00
WP35 Matching pair of rule joint planes by Greenfield Tool Co.;
the cleanest pair I've owned, never messed with, may used
once or twice, the original owner probably spent more time
stamping his name in them than he ever did using them;
sized for 5/8 thick stock, the planes cut the fancy joint
for table tops and it's normally the case that only one of
the pair is found; steeper pitched irons for working in
hardwoods, they are great working pair ready to last your,
and several other, lifetimes; a very difficult to find pair
of planes; left two:

MS19 Pair of box shaves; used to remove the printing on wooden

the other; top two:

MS20 3/4" screw box and matching tap with its 'wrench'; both
with nicely turned handles, good age, probably French, and
in solid worker shape; not the usual boring German and
English design; bottom left:

MS21 Millers Falls No.1 eggbeater drill; earlier model with the
star stamped into the crank handle, rosewood handle has

MS22 C.E.Jennings "Knob Handle" tool set in its original hinged
wooden box; a grouping of tools for a working kit, what's
here is in decent shape, it's missing some tools, the hard
to find ones are present - awl, combination tool with hammer,
ratcheting screw driver, saw blade, and tool handles; I
believe it's missing two chisels and something else I can't
recall, since snapping the image I found the nail puller in
a pile of stuff; a very difficult set to find, you're well on
your way to having a complete one:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t16.jpg $185.00
MS23 Copeland pattern 7" dividers with telescoping leg; clean,
ready to use, the leg can be removed for a pencil; maker's

MS24 J.H. Spear 1904 patent rosewood spoke shave; invented by
a gunsmith, it's a fine quality shave that is well suited
for the best work, Spear probably came up with it after
working on gun stocks; 12" long, brass plated sole, 2 3/4"
cutter shows some pit spots; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t17.jpg $90.00
MS25 12" rosewood scraper with steel plated sole; these are
manufactured, as yet nobody knows by which firm, they
are of great quality and used for detailed work; 1 7/8"
blade, barely used, graceful shaped handles make for a
comfortable grip; odds are they were in common use by
gunsmiths as they often show up with the above shave;

MS26 Three Addis carving chisels with stubby handles, they
are part of the patternmaker's pile in the next item; in

MS29 Book, "Antique&Collectible Stanley Tools" by John Walter;
hardcover thick book, it's the 1996 second edition in extra
nice shape; guaranteed to make you a Stanley expert over-
night, years of rumors claim a new edition is just about
to be released, but it's anyone's guess when that will
happen, this is the standard reference everyone uses now;

http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t28.jpg $255.00
MS30 Grouping of collets for a smaller lathe, probably a
watchmaker's; arranged in a wooden drill index, 14 of

MS31 Crazy oversize cast iron shave of the style used to work
shoe lasts and other shaped objects; never seen another
like it, it's either on steroids or suffers tool acromegaly,
it's twice the size of a standard one; image fails to
capture its scale, it's 13" long and weighs almost a ton;
in fine shape, showing normal signs of use, manufactured,
I can't imagine what it was used on, perhaps you can use
it when you model Rodin's The Thinker in goncalo alves;

MS32 Boxwood slitting gauge; a well made thing that looks to be
American (possibly Johnson or Quigley as it has their NJ
appearance about it); well made, showing signs of normal
use, original brass wedge and knife, it'll make a great
worker; far less common species of wood than the usual
rosewood or ebony; middle:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t29.jpg $85.00
MS33 Millers Falls No.2 spoke shave; a clever design that has
an adjustable sole section with four surfaces to suit the
work; as found, all original parts, in normal aged con-
dition, it'll make a fine worker; much less common than the
No.1 circular shave; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t29.jpg $70.00
MS34 Standard Rule Co. patent #4 size smoothing plane; one that
is free of damage, with all original parts, it's in much
nicer than usual condition; oddly, the tote's bolt is
through the sole, centered in a milled depression that
looks to be original work as Standard Rule's quality and
workmanship was all over the place, much of it in need
of improvement; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t31.jpg $285.00
MS35 Eight Jennings pattern twist augers as manufactured by
Snell of Worcester; in a nice hinged wooden case, better
than what most licensees offered, a metal bar and wooden
piece keep the bits in place on both halves; showing
usual signs of use, some more so than others, and some
localized pitting on the shanks, they look to be sound
workers; diameters of 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16
sixteenths; left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t32.jpg $85.00
MS36 Hammer struck saw set with bronze casting and steel plunger;
on its original wooden base, it's stamped "IMPROVED", I
believe it to be an English design; fine worker shape,
normal mushrooming from being struck, adjustable gauge,
4" overall length; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t32.jpg $155.00
MS37 Double bit Black Raven axe; great embossing on this one,
back stamped with True Temper name, owner initials on
both side, handle appears to be original (and with
obligatory black tape), the head was mushroomed a bit
around the eye, there's a bit of loss there, but it
doesn't go into the embossing; the boy got up at 5am and
found this at a flea market while his father was stuffing
his gob with pork products in Iowa; bottom right:

MS40 Six Millers Falls smaller carving chisels; a popular set
over decades of production, these represent a good group
for those starting carving, seasoned veterans also found
them useful; each a different pattern, little use, some
minor rust blemishes; top pile:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t34.jpg $45.00
MS41 15 center bits, three countersinks, and a Stanley dowel
pointer; a good working selection, the center bits are the
old style pattern for boring holes in wood, they were all
the rage prior to the twist auger; cleaner than usually
found, some superficial rust blooms, they are perfect for
those wanting to recreate period work; bottom pile:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t34.jpg $110.00
MS42 Goodell Pratt bench grinder; one of the best grinders made,
the thing mounts to the surface of the bench, not clamped
to it, a couple of cranks keeps the stone spinning longer
than other grinders; free of damage, as found, a bit dirty,
still with most of the decal on the 6" diameter drive gear,
with its original tool rest, it's a serious grinder for
serious work:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t37.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t37a.jpg $245.00
MS43 Bridge City Tool PB-9 plumb bob; in the original box, with
wood and brass spool, looks unused, and with owner's manual,
one might rightfully question why a person would buy this
if they need an owner's manual; now discontinued, perhaps
the buyers found it too complicated to use such a simple
tool; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t39.jpg $125.00
MS44 6" sweep brace by John Fray of Bridgeport, CT (frame is
stamped with name and location); a fine quality worker,
with full ratchet, spring jaws, and exotic wood, it's
this firm that Stanley bought to get them in the brace
business; ready to use, perfect for greater control when
more accurate boring is required; better than half the
original finish remains; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t40.jpg $115.00
MS45 Robert Mathews January 6, 1903 patent "hand gaining tool";
an odd thing, and quite uncommon, it's designed to cut a
groove of any kind, straight or curved; two spurs to score
the grain ahead of a 1/4" wide cutter, these features are
integral to the forging; an adjustable depth stop controls
the depth of cut; a very customized tool for a specific
job, it was never destined for great sales, it's only the
second I've hand in decades of mining old tools; patent
drawing shows a fence, I don't think that made it on the
production of the tool; in fine shape, clearly stamped
with patent date, 10 1/2" long; middle:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t40.jpg $185.00
MS46 Philadelphia made miter square with brass plated mahogany
handle on a 10" steel blade; stamped "PHILAD WARRANTED",
the maker likely forgot to stamp it, it's no doubt by one
of the many layout and/or saw makers operating there during
the 1800's; in sound shape, cleaned, blade is tarnished,
not pitted; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t40.jpg $115.00
MS47 D.Nichols Hampstead, NH leather edging tool; still with
its original paper label, the L-shape cherry tool is very
well made, with a leaf spring-like assembly to press the
work against the slitting blade; barely use, it's much
nicer looking that the poor image suggests; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t41.jpg $85.00
MS48 Unusual bronze shave with unique handle/grip for two hand
use; what must be a manufactured thing, very well made, a
thumb screw raises a casting above the cutter to set the
thickness of cut; 5 1/2" long, never messed with, great
patina, has a ca.1875 appearance, must be held in the hand
to appreciate its quality; top right:

MS49 6" beech shave with 1" wide cutter; likely made in England,

stock, it can be still used as is or plated with brass if
desired; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t41.jpg $60.00
MS50 Pair of auger handles, each a different design and likely
made by James Swan; used to hold a twist auger, they are
popular with timber framers to apply sufficient torque as
the auger is turned; one a simple design with a single
wing nut to suck the opposing casting against the auger,
the other a more complex two piece thing with two thumb
screws thus creating twice the work to secure the auger;
both as found and a bit dirty, each will make a fine
worker; bottom two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t42.jpg $90.00
MS51 Spoke pointer pair; one by A.A.Wood with adjustable shaft
for controlling depth of cut, and one that's embossed with
a Philadelphia make of Bates Mfg. Co.; both dirty and free

prepare the work for a hollow auger when turning round
tenons; top right two:

MS53 Reynolds&Sons Norwich, Connecticut axe; more of a side axe
as the back is flat, the bevel is on the other side; 8 1/2"
along the edge, handle appears original, clearly stamped
with the maker's name, it can't be too common as I don't
recall seeing another; in fine worker shape, much nicer
than what's normally found; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t44.jpg $185.00
MS54 Four good quality framing chisels; each without handles,
never abused, laminated steel construction, no resemblance
to exploded cigars, all a different width; a 1/2" by M.
Hunter, a 1 1/4" by Douglas Mfg.Co., a 1 1/2" with only
owner initials, and a 2" bevel back that also has no name,
this one has some pitting on the backside, nothing out of
the ordinary for these tools when left unused; guaranteed
to make fine worker; middle four:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t44.jpg $155.00
MS55 A.J.Wilkinson 8" folding handle drawknife; best quality,
never abused, dirty from sitting, the handles fold back

much nicer than they appear now; a Millers Falls No.670A
that has decal remnants on knob, an early No.830 T-handle
with brass shaft stamped patent applied for, a Millers
Falls rosewood handle with 1894 patent date, and an A.H.
Reid with lignum head and metallic disk below (can't
recall seeing that material on one of these); left four:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t46.jpg $155.00
MS57 Pair of Sargent tools, a No.52 adjustable scraper with
its original four hole blade so it can be held tighter
and rotated as it's used, and a very scruffy adjustable
No.53 cabinet scraper with thick mahogany sole, blade is
a replacement; right:

MS58 18 Addis carving chisels in their original hinged wooden
box (with internal label); a good variety of shapes, all
with original matching handles, only a few show real signs
of use (two rusted, they must have been out of the box for
awhile), the rest have their original straw color; great
quality, wooden box shows external scuffs and wear, one
clasp is missing:

common than the popular Billings&Spencer; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t52.jpg $70.00
MS62 Mathieson gas fitter's pliers; an uncommon mark on a rather
mundane tool, if you're ticking the Mathieson boxes, this

http://www.supertool.com/forsale/jun/t52.jpg $45.00
MS63 Unusual and very well made rosewood handle tool that has a
decorative brightly finished 'ferrule'; I haven't a clue
what this is for, it resembles a reamer however the thing

MS68 Good clapboard slick with longer shaft than normal; made
of laminated steel, and used just like a standard slick,
this one is designed for finer control and accuracy, it
commonly is used to scarf adjacent clapboards to provide
greater weatherproofing than a simple butt joint offers;
original turned handle, one portion was pared a bit to
give its owner better grip; 30" long, 3 1/2" wide, it's
stamped with a maker mark of Welland and something, over
St.Catharines - sounds Canadian, eh? a fine working tool;

owner made thing, 6 3/4" long, it's similar to a #2 size
plane; crazy stuffing at the heel to form the bed and the
closed tote, it has a large thumb screw to secure the
iron; cleaned, there are very shallow dings on the cheek
that can be lapped out, if that's your preference; the
original lever cap has been moved, which is common on
these planes when another iron was used; a strange one;

MS71 Boxwood inverted T-shape plumb level; the real deal from
the early 1800's, not some modern Piltdown tool aged to
fool collectors, the construction on this thing is amazing
as the vertical portion has two tenons, one to either side
of the opening for the plumb, into the horizontal 7/16"
thick base; 20" long, great patina, decorative details that
mimic common molding profiles, early plumb bob that is of

MS180 Foot operated miter retailed by M.B.Tidey (of barking
mad fame) when he relocated to NJ; with a cast plaque that
reads "M.B.Tidey Superior Machinery Newark, NJ", this is
the place he ran off to after trying to dump his idiotic
double beveling plane on the public in NY state; the
Newark air must have knocked some sense in him as it's
there where he managed to manufacture some useful stuff,
most notably table saws and fences for them; until finding
this thing, I never knew he also sold a miter machine
and can find no reference to another, it's likely that he
was licensed to sell this design, which was a common way
of business during that time; with a decorative cast
'column', it supports the usual wooden table, the lever
is pressed with a foot to drive the two cutters down on
the work; as found, and fully functional, the design
suffers a flaw - the three feet don't have enough
support to keep them from spreading, Tidey provided two
stretchers to add strength, but he didn't count on the
castings to break out where the stretchers join, there
is a later stretcher added to overcome the design flaw;
original cutters, one shorter than the other, the
wooden bed shows usual wear; stands 50", has remains of
the original finish, it has to be the rarest thing Tidey
manufactured; this can't be shipped so it must be picked
up at the tool dump or I can get it to central Michigan,
maybe northern Ohio, this month:

MS181 Chaplin's Patent #4 size smoothing plane; a good and all
original example that is identical to those with the
plated metallic knob and tote but with turned wooden knob
and hard rubber handle, this isn't the later style with
corrugated main casting; Chaplin name embossed around the
knob, this is a nice example that represents the transition
of the major changes to the design a few years later so
that it could compete better with Stanley; top right:

MS182 Rare larger size Humphrey's cavity spoke shave; roughly
half again as large as the standard issue, I can't recall
seeing one of this size before; all original parts, never
messed, stamped with patent date, normal finish loss, it's
a very well design shave that uses the handles to secure
the iron; bottom right:
