If you have questions about what the Stanley numbers are, you can
look the planes up on Blood&Gore:

Sometimes, emails to/from me are vectored to some cyber black
hole, never reaching their destination. I answer all emails, so if
you haven't heard from me, your/my email is likely having high tea
in said black hole, never to be heard from, so please try again.

Please email me prior to sending money so that you can be sure
the item is still up for grabs. Also, prices do not include shipping,
which is the amount that it takes to go from me to you via the US
Post Office.

This list goes out to many people, normally on the first Monday
of the month (unless otherwise noted above). So, if you see something
you want, it's the quickest finger on the trigger that wins the duel.

Some folks become upset that they miss out on a tool. I wish I had
lots of this stuff many times over so I can satisfy the demand, but
that is normally not the case. Some of it does have duplicates here,
and if so, I will state that in my reply to you.

Also, due to the nature of selling over the wires, tools are sold
on a first come, first serve basis. The first person to say "I'll
take it", gets it. I have to operate this way as some will take a
few days to get back to me with their interest in a particular item,
and it's unfair to keep others waiting who are willing to buy the
item immediately.

I reserve the right to correct typographical errors after the list
goes out. I rarely make them, but when I do they can be major ones.

If you're the kind of person who puts a straightedge to the sole of
a #40, to check it for flatness, or who tosses a plane on a scale to
weigh it against what it states in the Stanley catalogs, you'll need
to take your business elsewhere. I'll wish you luck finding perfection
in something that was never made, nor intended to be, perfect. You guys
know who you are, and it's best for both of us that our paths not cross.

Remember, you don't have to be a connoisseur (did I spell that
correctly) to shop here. You can be a wirehead, a metalhead, a zipper-
head, a propellerhead, a deadhead, a cokehead, or even a knuckle
dragging oaf, just like me, to shop here, as long as your dinero is
green.

Thanks for shopping, and remember that no letters or words were
injured when writing this list...

FEATURED TOOL OF THE MONTH
******** **** ** *** *****

FT1 A fine H.Wetherel/In/Norton panel raiser; by an important
name in early New England planemaking, his son carried on
the trade; made prior to the Revolution, while he was in
Norton, Massachusetts, he served in the Revolutionary War
in 1776 and moved to Chatham, Connecticut a few years
after his service; with a clear stamp, no owner marks,
free of alteration, it's in remarkable condition for its
age, it shows the normal shallow checks at the toe and
heel (the images make them appear worse than they are),
a couple very early nails arrested a split that formed
at the fence near the toe; a very nice plane with a maker's
mark less common than Nicholson's and Chelor's:

 STANLEY
*******

ST1 Three spoke shaves; a clean adjustable mouth #53 of an
earlier production, a #55 rounding shave with not much
finish, and a #51; each as found, free of damage, they
will make fine workers; bottom right three:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t21.jpg $95.00

ST3 #984 corner brace; designed to work in obstructed areas,
it's a quality worker in as found condition; can be used
as is, normal finish loss, full features of ratchet,
spring chuck, and ball bearing head; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t27.jpg $80.00
ST4 #100 and #101 miniature block planes; earlier production

sound workers; latter has some minor finish loss; bottom
two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t31.jpg $75.00

and a set of nine cutters that are thicker than the original

is; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t33.jpg $120.00
ST7 #4 1/2C corrugated oversize smoothing plane; type 11, with
all original parts, as found, no damage, normal grunge from
sitting, it saw little use; will easily clean, japanning is
95%; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t37.jpg $155.00
ST8 #40 1/2 larger scrub plane; free of damage, as found, in
need of a clean or it can be left dirty for dirty work;
early 1920's production, roughly 50% japanning remains,
it will work as well as a mint one; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t38.jpg $110.00
ST9 #94 cabinetmaker's rabbet plane; the largest of the four
plane series, it's also the least common, I find more of
these in England than I do here in the US, those blokes
liked larger and heavier rabbet planes; free of damage,
with plating loss, it's from the 1920's, the disk has the
sweetheart logo stamped in it; a worker; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t38.jpg $195.00
ST10 #12 scraper with original 22tpi toothing iron; in little
used condition, very lightly cleaned, way nicer than what's
normally found, the iron serves double duty for standard
scraping and for toothing work; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t39.jpg $115.00
ST11 #79 side rabbet with adjustable stop; earlier UK production
and with original box, it may have been used once and then
put away; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t40.jpg $80.00
ST12 #99 side rabbet; a clean example in the original box, it's
missing the stop, the earliest model didn't have the stop
proving that its function is limited; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t40.jpg $70.00
ST13 #92 cabinetmaker's rabbet plane; found with the #79, same
vintage and origin, it's offered for parts as it was
dropped and the front section snapped off and was repaired;
works fine as is as a chisel plane; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t40.jpg $120.00
ST14 #3 smoothing plane; ca.1940 example that saw limited use,
it has normal grunge from sitting idle, all of it will
easily clean to make this a fine worker; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t41.jpg $90.00
ST15 #78 duplex rabbet; UK Stanley, barely used, complete, and
in the original box; normal storage dust/grime, a fine
worker of the best selling metallic rabbet made; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t41.jpg $85.00
ST16 #112 scraper; despite what the image suggests, this one saw
very little use and has it's original full length blade, it
has caked on dust from sitting idle in a shop; never messed
with, it's waiting to be released from dust captivity and
be put back to worker top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t43.jpg $185.00
ST17 #9 cabinetmaker's plane body; early model, with the solid
nut adjuster that runs parallel to the sole; missing the
iron, lever cap, and handle, it's a good project for some-
one who wants a worker, there is a crack on the left side
above the adjustable sole, which is an odd place as many
are cracked at the heel and/or around the two screws for
the adjustable sole, this one managed to escape that; a
regular iron and lever cap with fit this, you'll have to
take a standard cap iron and rework it if you want to use
the thing; middle:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t43.jpg $125.00
ST18 #140 combination block rabbet plane; a worker in as found
condition, with all original parts; normal plating loss on
the lever cap, the plane will benefit from a clean, and
will do so well; a popular and solid working design, it
can do standard block plane work, cut rabbets, and clean
tenon cheeks; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t43.jpg $120.00
ST19 #42X saw set in the original box and with instructions;
maybe used a couple times, it's the popular model for
setting finer tooth saws; box is tatty, it's tossed in
for free; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t44.jpg $80.00
ST20 #40 scrub plane; later model with rosewood knob and tote,
the only time that wood was used on a plane designed for
such rough work; in better than usual shape, it can be
honed and used as is; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t45.jpg $115.00
ST21 #5 1/2 oversize jack plane; a type 11 that saw limited
use, it's dusty from sitting; a solid worker, the tote
likely is a replacement, though is perfectly shaped for
the vintage, its horn was repaired with a scarfed piece,
none of this hinders the plane's use; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t46.jpg $140.00
ST22 #2 smoothing plane; a very clean late 1890's model that's
free of damage, the main casting is dusty; a later owner
put a tall knob on it, likely preferring that over the
short knob; a very nice example; bottom right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t46.jpg $245.00
ST23 Roll of Jennings pattern augers; the best pattern for
hardwoods, most are unused, those that were saw very little
use; 1/4" to 1" diameters in 1/16" increments, the plastic
roll is a good choice as it doesn't wick moisture like
cloth/canvas/leather rolls do; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t49.jpg $155.00
ST24 #603 smoothing plane; a very ugly example that's begging
to be freed from its rusty incarceration, the tote is
split (and can be glued), the base of the knob has been
taped; in need of a good soaking, if you have the energy,
a worker awaits your elbow grease; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t50.jpg $115.00
ST25 #1 smoothing plane; ignore that warthog positioned above it
in the image, tool shaming is not on the menu here at the
tool dump where the good, the bad, and the ugly coexist in
blissful harmony; this #1 one is super clean, and is a
type 11 vintage with the V logo stamped on the cutter;
apart from the wood being refinished, this one is as it
left New Britain, natural aging has given the exterior a
darker surface; dusty from sitting in a collection; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t50.jpg $1465.00
ST26 #923 8" sweep brace; barely used, extra clean, ready to
go, it's a great example of Stanley's best selling premium

used, full length points, stamped with the Stanley name, it
can be used as is; sliding point is set turning the thumb
screw, it's Stanley's best quality gauge and was made prior
to WWII; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t54.jpg $55.00
ST28 #12 1/2 rosewood sole scraper; a very clean example that saw
little use, it has its original blade; can be sharpened and

http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t56.jpg $115.00
ST29 #271 miniature router; US made, all original parts, as
found, some tarnish to the plating will brighten with
fine steel wool; bottom left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t56.jpg $65.00
ST30 #604 Bed Rock smoothing plane; flat side model from the
early 1930's; all original parts, including STANLEY lever
cap, it has a dark patina, nearly all japanning remains;
free of damage, heel of iron shows some mushrooming that
can be filed, the iron and cap iron need brightening; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t57.jpg $155.00
ST31 #151 1/2 claw hammer with decal; carefully used, somehow
the label remained intact, the only sign of use is the
wear on the waffle face; 1930's vintage, likely a 14oz.
hammer; great quality; middle:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t59.jpg $60.00
ST32 #4 smoothing plane; very clean, it can be used as after a
honing; from the 1930's, the iron's hardness test is Feb.,
1937; a good example for those just starting with hand
planes; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t61.jpg $115.00

ing plane of a longer front casting allowed Stanley to
capitalize on a design that was waning in the tool market
to find more use in another trade; in fine, as found,
shape; early 1920's production, free of damage, one to
tick the box of owning every Stanley plane model; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t62.jpg $285.00
ST35 Four 1930's Everlasting chisels with the black hard rubber
handles; as good as any, the handles are embossed with the
Stanley name, these aren't to be confused with the later
plastic handles; in fine as found condition, widths of
1/4", 3/8", 1/2", and 1"; plenty of life left in them,
they can be honed and used as is; top left four:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t63.jpg $120.00
ST36 1/4" Everlasting chisel; clean worker, 8 3/4" long, can
be honed and used as is; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t63.jpg $50.00
ST37 1 1/4" Everlasting with the 'waist' handle; 11 3/4" long,
little used, a difficult width to find; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t63.jpg $115.00
ST38 #48 match plane in its original box with picture label; a
nickel plated model with the Victorian casting, it's barely
used, the plating is 98% with just a bit missing on the top
of the grip and fence; "B" casting dates it ca.1905, the
protective coating has become discolored, that will easily
clean; label shows minor loss, some seam separation, no tape
on the box; a very nice example; top right:

ST39 #10 1/2 type 1 smooth rabbet; made for a short time, the
first model has an adjustable mouth via sliding the front
portion forward/backward; a good as found example with all
original parts, plenty of life left on the '92 patent iron,
cast disk present below the knob (this part is often MIA);
never messed with, a sound worker; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t66.jpg $345.00
ST40 #39 3/4" dado; early model with embossing on the right
side of the main casting, it's as found, with all original
parts, the top of the left nicker snapped off, it's 100%
usable as is; a sound worker of the proper width for
today's standard stock thickness; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t66.jpg $130.00
ST41 1/2" cutter for the #77 doweling machine; embossed model

ST45 #60 1/2 low angle block plane; long machined bed, it's
probably unused, some superficial rust formed here and
there from sitting idle, it'll clean easily; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t69.jpg $60.00
ST46 #289 fillister plane; one of Stanley's better offerings,
it's inspired by the common wooden moving fillisters that
were offered on both sides of the Atlantic for decades; all
original parts, no damage, it's earlier production with
embossed patent date and J-logo iron; a plane that cuts
rabbets in any grain direction; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t76.jpg $255.00
ST47 #96 24" brass bound rosewood level with V-logo to match
all your type 11 planes; as found, never cleaned, both
vials original, some minor knocks, this model has a
laminated three piece stock, the inner piece is lighter

ST48 #606 Bed Rock fore plane; earlier round side model with
two-line embossed lever cap; much nicer than what's

ST50 #607C corrugated Bed Rock jointer; a sound worker, it's a
later flat side model with single embossed patent date,
the iron is a 1930's Stanley replacement, the knob and

different vintage, that's no matter as all parts are
Stanley and the plane works as well as any; owner mark
on the main casting, the tall knob has a chip off its
base; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t79.jpg $180.00
ST51 #602 Bed Rock smoothing plane; early 1930's, in as found
condition, a solid worker, tote has decal remnants on it,
it has a split nearer its base, it will glue well, I didn't
want to replace it as it's been with the plane since the
day it was made; bottom:

ST52 #604 1/2 Bed Rock oversize smoothing plane; earlier round

will make a fine worker; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t99.jpg $365.00
ST60 #64 butcher block low angle jack plane; one of the planes
Stanley probably regretted offering, it's essentially a
beefed up #62, a plane that never could have withstood the
tough use in the hands of a butcher, plenty of wood butchers
certainly proved the fragility of the #62, Stanley took a
stab at this one, but butcher's shunned it and instead
scraped their blocks; as found, free of damage, with the
standard cutter that has the V-logo, it's ready for your

fine worker; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t103.jpg $120.00
ST66 #62 low angle jack plane; one that escaped the very common
damage at the bed, this is a worker that can be honed and
used as is; normal cosmetic wear, earlier production with
iron stamped "STANLEY", it has all original parts; a harm-
less abrasion on the tote's horn doesn't detract; one not

better; bottom three:

"BED ROCK" lever cap; japanning looks to be about 25%; a
worker screaming to be free of its grime; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t112.jpg $290.00
ST73 #39 1/2" dado; as found worker in cleaner than usual shape,
it's free of damage, and will make a fine worker; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t112.jpg $125.00
ST74 #45 combination plane; a 1920's example that saw barely
any use, it has all original parts save for the screw
driver, which is busy doing other jobs; can be used as is,
the original box is tossed in for free, it took all the
abuse as a noble gesture protecting the plane:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t115.jpg $275.00
ST75 #7 jointer; a ca.1950 example that saw very little use, it
can be honed and used as is; a vintage that gets an un-
deserved bad rap, this plane was made for professionals,
one of my go to plane is a ca.1960 blue finish #7C and
it works as well as any; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t116.jpg $195.00
ST76 1/2" Everlasting bevel edge chisel; the #20, with the waist
handle, most of the finish remains on the handle; 11 1/8"
overall length, it can be honed and used as is; middle:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t119.jpg $75.00
ST77 #67 Universal spoke shave; complete, with fence and both
bottoms, it's one of Stanley's best shaves that can do
general work as well as cut rabbets left and right; over-
all fine shape, round sole and fence show plating loss;
bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t119.jpg $125.00
ST78 #8C corrugated jointer; a type 10, which is a type 11 save
for the logo stamped on the iron; all original parts, no
damage, little used, 90%+ japanning remains; normal grunge
on a 100+ year old plane, it will easily wipe off to make
this far nicer than most from this era, it has the dark
exterior patina that should be left as is to keep it from
rusting; nice one; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t120.jpg $225.00
ST79 #6C corrugated fore plane; a very clean and barely used
ca.WWII vintage, it can be honed and used as is; thicker
WWII casting benefits planing, it has plated lever cap,
brass adjuster, stained hardwood knob and tote; top:

  WOOD PLANES
**** ******

WP1 R.Piper/Dublin, NH hollowing plane; a very difficult to
find maker's mark from a bucolic town that sits on the
broad slope of Mt.Monadnock, it's the home of Yankee
Magazine; clearly stamped with the name and location,
has a slight radius to the sole; in fine shape, 8 1/2"
long, single iron, owner mark; I'm 24 miles from Dublin,
and this is the second one I've had in 40+ years of
active tool hunting: top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t6.jpg $195.00
WP2 T.Tileston/Boston 7" double bead; the fully boxed sole
cuts two adjacent 1/16" beads to make a nice detail on
this special purpose smaller scale plane that may have
been aimed at the carriagemaking trade; regardless, it
can be used by any trade that calls for such work; in
great condition, the profile at the nose show some
wear, it's 100% usable; iron is pitched steeper than
usual; an uncommon plane by a notable Boston maker who
influenced many other makers in the area; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t6.jpg $165.00
WP3 Jo Fuller/In/Providence bollection; cuts 1/2" deep, this is
a fine and never messed with example by one of America's
best and most notable 18th century makers, his work doesn't
takes a backseat to any other maker, the variety of his
work seems endless; never cleaned or altered, with dry
surface, no owner mark, some very minor staining; top
left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t7.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t7a.jpg $685.00
WP4 4/8" thumbnail by Jo.Fuller/Providence; another fine ex-
ample that's never been messed with; no owner mark, clear
maker mark, 10" long, yellow birch, it saw very little
use; the classic profile for the lids of chests or table
edges; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t7.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t7b.jpg $255.00
WP5 Jo.Fuller 3/16" dado; a rare size by any maker, this is an
especially nice example that shows Fuller's style change
as the 19th century drew nearer; made of yellow birch, the
stock is 9 1/2", the soon to be standard length; lightly
cleaned, both wedges are relieved, a large wooden thumb
screw, like those he used on his plough planes, secures
the depth stop; maker's mark is readable but is a bit
weak; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t7.jpg $190.00
WP6 Different C.Warren/Nashua moving fillister; from the right
side of the plane, it looks like any other US fillister
with nicker, boxed shoulder, and adjustable stop, it's on
the left side the difference is apparent; the fence is
is secured with L-shape brass castings that let the fence
move laterally, they also allow the fence to be raised
upward so that it's completely out of the way allowing
it to function as a common rabbet; in sound, as found
condition and shows normal signs of use; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t8.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t8a.jpg $185.00
WP7 T.Tileston/Front St./Boston double iron sash; adjustable
body, that is two parts so they can slide away from each
other when wider work is required, this is an uncommon
model for Tileston, it has short wooden arms, the side
that cuts the rabbet has two thumb screws to hold the
set; cuts a reverse ogee, that profile is fully boxed,
the shoulder of the rabbet is single boxed; in fine,
barely used condition, clear maker mark, owner mark, one
lobe off the rear thumb screw is snapped off; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t8.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t8b.jpg $155.00
WP8 L.Little complex molding plane of a different profile;
cuts a 7/8" deep by 1 1/2" wide quirk ovolo, cove, and
odd ogee that looks like and astragal with a small curv-
ature adjacent to the fence; as found, never cleaned or
altered, flat chamfers, lignum boxing, some stable ancient
checking, owner initials; definitely a different profile
than what's normally seen on a ca.1800 US plane:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t9.jpg $290.00
WP9 Probably new old stock Tucker&Appleton 7/8" cove; out of
a time capsule, and by a notable Boston partnership:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t10.jpg $110.00
WP10 Deep 1" quirk ovolo of a 3/4" width; by T.J.McMaster&Co.
of Auburn, NY, it has great proportions and is an uncommon
size for this profile; barely used, never cleaned or altered,
with owner mark:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t11.jpg $160.00
WP11 I.Sleeper cockbead with steeper pitched iron for working
harder/exotic woods; a fine, little used example, it cuts
the common 3/16" diameter cockbead as well as the adjacent
fillet; 9 3/4" long, flat chamfers, no owner mark, this is
a very nice plane and of an uncommon pattern:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t12.jpg $225.00
WP12 Bigelow&Barrus 5/8" cove and astragal; uncommon maker and
less common size for this classic profile; free of alter-
ation, owner marks, in sound worker shape:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t13.jpg $145.00
WP13 1/4" quirk ovolo; earlier proportions on this clean beech
plane with flat chamfers; no doubt manufactured, but with
no maker mark, it's in fine worker shape, a bit of staining
at the toe:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t14.jpg $90.00
WP14 New old stock 5/16" beading plane by Auburn Tool Co.; be
the first one to give it a try, it's a good size for
cabinetwork when a 1/4" or 3/8" bead is called for, the
eye can't distinguish a 1/16" difference:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t15.jpg $115.00
WP15 7/8" quarter round by Belcher Bros./Providence; the common
thumbnail profile that's used on lids, door casings, etc.,
it saw limited use and is free of alteration; owner initials,
in sound worker shape:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t16.jpg $110.00
WP16 A.&E.Baldwin 3/4" deep by 1 1/2" wide quirk ogee and bevel;
good proportions on this one that's perfect for today's
standard stock thickness; lightly cleaned, free of alter-
ation, owner mark, it has better proportions than normally
found for this commonly used mid-1800's profile:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t17.jpg $120.00
WP17 I.Sleeper double iron cornice plane; Sleeper liked to use
multiple irons on his cornice and sash planes, his Yankee
frugality likely is the reason as narrower irons were more
plentiful and less costly than wider irons, using them re-
quired more work on the body, but labor was cheap back in
the late 1700's; cuts the common bed profile, a hollow and
a round separated by a bevel, of 3", it found wide use at
the transition of the soffit and fascia; as found, 14" long,
with inlaid lignum strike button, the tote's horn is chipped
off, Sleeper's toted planes tend to suffer this as he used
vertical grain on them in an effort to prevent the common
splitting at the midpoint; a very nice example by a notable
Newburyport, MA maker who influenced countless planemakers
around him, his cornice planes are quite uncommon; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t18.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t18a.jpg $1385.00
WP18 A.Hathaway round; made of yellow birch and with flat cham-
fers, Hathaway is likely a central Massachusetts maker as
the length is 9", a length common to planes from that
area; very clear stamp, no owner marks, cleaned, some of
his planes were found in a group with Jn.Tower, who is a
documented planemaker from Rutland, MA, Hathaway's planes
are very uncommon; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t18.jpg $390.00
WP19 Massive I.C.Titcomb/N.P. 5" double iron cornice plane; in
barely used condition, it cuts a common ogee that would
find you in a large house or public building's cornice;
16" long, it's made by a notable cabinetmaking family of
several generations working in Newburyport (that's what
the "N.P." is), this one being Isaac Cummings who died
1859; a very rare plane by an uncommon maker, the "N.P."
mark is very rare; a great plane, I remember when this
plane was auctioned in Newburyport during ca.1990, I
wasn't able to buy it then, it's good to have it now for
a short time; a great plane:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t19.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t19a.jpg $1785.00
WP20 Jo.Fuller/Providence 5" cornice plane; a large chunk of
yellow birch, it cuts the common ogee, square, and reverse
ogee; a nice, as found example, free of alteration, with
offset small tote, and early owner initials stamped in
the toe, it's interesting how Fuller stamped his marks
in one line rather than the common two lines; some minor
staining, overall good patina, it's uncommon to find 18th
century planes of this width; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t20.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t20a.jpg $2450.00
WP21 8" lignum vitae smoothing plane; a much nicer than usual
example that's free of the normal chipping/checking; the
usual coastal New England example made by a shipwright
for his own use, these planes normally mix woods, this one
is no exception, the wedge is mahogany; 1 3/4" double iron
by Moulson; a nice looking plane that will make a fine
worker; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t20.jpg $285.00
WP22 Solid boxwood plough plane by H.L.James; toted, this one
saw barely any use and is in great condition with even
patina, the only apology is a small flake off the front
arm's support; would be difficult to find a nicer one as
boxwood likes to check and take on an uneven patina, this
one never suffered that:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t24.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t24a.jpg $390.00
WP23 P.A.Gladwin toted rosewood plough with boxwood wedge, arms,
nuts, and washers, it has a subtle feature of a molded toe
above the rounded skate, something not easily visible in
the images; in fine as found condition, Gladwin is a notable
maker, he received some patents for match planes as well as
offering the multi-tool sets, his wooden plane output is
not common; some minor staining on back of the wedge, owner
marks, a better than usual example:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t25.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t25a.jpg $590.00
WP24 S*Dean hollow; a respectable example by this mid-18th
century maker who worked in Dedham, MA, many of his planes
are sloppy/crude; yellow birch, broad flat chamfers, good
original surface, no owner name; a plane that saw use, the
sole may have lost about 1/4", but it's impossible to say
for certain given Dean's rather careless work; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t26.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t26a.jpg $1185.00
WP25 Ion*Ballou/Providence hollow; like Dean, Ballou's work is
rather crude, this one is a better effort than what is
normally found; an uncommon mark with the Providence
location, it's free of modification, the stamp is very
clear, which is something that can't be said for most of
his work; lightly cleaned, owner carved initials in the
toe, there are couple of ancient chips at the heel from
mallet whacks to back the wedge out; a very respectable
example; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t26.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t26b.jpg $1385.00
WP26 H.Wetherel/Chatham bead; with the early motifs, this is
a nice yellow birch plane with a relieved wedge; cuts the
old style 5/8" diameter bead, the stock is the original
9 3/4" length; good patina, very lightly cleaned, this
one saw barely any use; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t26.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t26c.jpg $595.00
WP27 Adjustable panel raiser by Greenfield Tool Co.; with a
fence that is adjustable like a moving fillister's, it
has a nicker iron secured by a wedge to leave a clean
field; the standard jack size plane, skewed single iron,
it can cut in any grain direction; sound as found con-
dition, free of modification, most panel raisers cut a
fixed width, this one works a good range; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t29.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t29a.jpg $275.00
WP28 Jo.Fuller/Providence halving plane; prior to the widespread
use of match planes, this design was used to make a better
joint between adjacent boards, it's preferred over a simple
butt joint as there's no visible gap when the wood shrinks
during seasonal movement, the plane was used on the earlier
work for backing boards on furniture and other applications;
in great shape, barely used, these planes are often within
an inch of firewood, this one escaped that fate; clear stamp,
it a great example of Fuller's middle period, it's sized for
3/4" thick stock; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t29.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t29b.jpg $285.00
WP29 Figured maple smoothing plane; very nice grain pattern and
rich patina on this worker, it's the German design with a
horn grip, it was made in the US by an immigrant, and was
found with the following four highly figured planes; 2"
double iron, it's in fine worker, and looker, condition;
owner/maker mark; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t47.jpg $125.00
WP30 Four rounds made from highly figured maple; great grain
patterns and patina, these were found with the previous
plane; bulky things, in comparison to manufactured US
wooden planes, these were made by an immigrant to America,
they are 8.75" long; in fine shape, they are roughly #4,
#8, #10, and #16 size rounds, they have their maker/owner
mark stamped in them; great condition, 100% usable, the
#10 is laminated construction; don't stare at the image
too long or your mind's jukebox may start playing Iron
Butterfly:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t48.jpg $390.00
WP31 Three carriagemaker's squirrel tail handle rabbet planes;
well made, two are by Griffiths/Norwich, one has an owner
mark; one with curved sole, others with flat soles that
taper at toe and heel so that the curvature is along the
sides; in fine shape, solid workers, one with some stain-
ing on the wedge; top three:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t51.jpg $125.00
WP32 1/4" dado by John Bell/Philadelphia; a clean and sound
worker, with owner mark, the narrow dados are uncommon
and often warped/damaged, this one escaped that and is
in nearly new condition; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t58.jpg $80.00
WP33 1/2" match planes by Casey&Co.; as found, never cleaned,
a stain on the grooving plane, harmless splinter off the
fence of the tonguing plane; will make solid workers, they
sat around more than they ever were used; a good size for
thinner stock; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t65.jpg $80.00
WP34 Auburn Tool Co. No.10 hollow and round planes; always to-
gether, little used, heels still have their original ink-
ing; free of modification, owner mark, normal rust patches
on irons from sitting idle, that will lap clean; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t65.jpg $85.00
WP35 16" jack plane made of a dense and dark exotic wood with a
closed tote of a lighter colored wood; 2 1/4" double iron
by Goldenberg, it's likely a French plane give the iron's
brand; little used, great mass, nice look, it can be honed
and used as is; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t75.jpg $190.00
WP36 Miniature 1/2" curved bead; 4 3/8" long, it's designed
to cut the bead on the inside curvature of a piece of
trim over an arch or similar; like most of these, it's
owner made; made of beech, in fine shape, with owner
name, minor staining; very well made; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t84.jpg $80.00
WP37 5 1/4" steel sole maple scraper with inlaid walnut (?)
bands as decoration; strike button at the toe to back the
wedge out, it's very well made and may be the product of
a patternmaker; iron is a portion of a #60 1/2's; a sound
worker for fine projects; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t84.jpg $70.00
WP38 F*NICHOLSON/WRENTHAM hollow; considered America's first
planemaker, he may not be exactly that, but he was its
first successful one; working in fairly remote Wrentham,
MA, his location was ideally situated between Boston and
Providence, this made it possible to market his goods
over a larger geographic area than other contemporary
makers, his planes have been found in Nova Scotia and
Bermuda; working in Wrentham from ca.1728 until his death
in 1753, he was the Stanley of his day and produced a re-
markable number of planes, aided by his slave, Cesar
Chelor; upon his death, he freed Chelor and bequeathed
tools to him and his son, John Nicholson, both of whom
carried on the trade, though the sequence of their pro-
duction is debatable as all three shared the "LIVING*IN"
stamp; this example is from Nicholson's earlier working
period as it doesn't have the "LIVING*IN" stamp and has
the earlier features; a fine example, never modified,
the hollow cuts 1 3/8" wide; with owner marks, an ancient
splinter off the right side at the toe doesn't detract,
it's a very nice example by an important name in the tool
world, many sellers of antiques also know his name as
well as Chelor's; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t84.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t84a.jpg $1485.00
WP39 Unused Marples beech smoothing plane in its original box;
all it needs is a honing of the 2 1/4" double iron, it
has its original decal on the side; a sound worker, 8"
long; right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t85.jpg $110.00
WP40 3/4" square and reverse ogee of very nice proportions; by
T.Turner of Sheffield, it has a steeper than usual pitched
iron to suit it well working harder woods; little used, with
owner mark, Turner made great stuff, his logo is rather odd,
a champagne bottle flanked by two T's:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t86.jpg $125.00
WP41 Mathieson 1/2" common ogee; dry surface, barely used, it
cuts the classic profile that has infinite uses, it's a
good size for cabinetwork:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t87.jpg $110.00
WP42 Matching pair of snipe bills by C.Nurse; boxed soles, as
found, free of the common cracking and chipping, one heel
has a slight radius from when a minor chip occurred long
ago; owner mark, both are in much nicer than usual shape;
bottom two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t88.jpg $190.00
WP43 Miniature contemporary smoothing plane made of ebony and
with boxwood wedge; made by some guy named Callen, it's
unused, 4 1/2" long, steeper than usual pitch single iron,
a small ding on the bottom edge occurred during storage;
left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t89.jpg $255.00
WP44 Pair of square ovolos by Griffiths/Norwich; a profile that
has many uses, these were originally sold for sashwork,
any project that calls for this profile will benefit from
these little used workers that are perfect for those who
wish to learn how to use wooden molding planes; owner mark,
no one is certain why the English offered these planes in
pairs, some have speculated that one is for the bars with
the other for the frame members, this makes the most sense
to me; bottom two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t90.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t90a.jpg $85.00
WP45 Topping/sun plane made of yellow birch; used by cooper's
to plane the tops of staves to level them, most cooper's
tools got the daylights beat out of them, this early ex-
ample escaped that fate; owner initials, several stable
and minor checks, it can still be used as it's in solid
condition; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t96.jpg $115.00
WP46 1/2" reverse ogee by A.Heald&Son/Milford; probably new old
stock, an owner stamped his initials in the heel; the 'new'
style version of the plane, which prevents the plane from
wanting to walk off the edge during use, some makers
offered this common profile where the fence references the
face rather than the edge, the result is the same and makes
the plane easier to use; a nice example by a fine NH maker;
top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t106.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t106a.jpg $95.00
WP47 1/2" square ovolo by A.Heald&Son/Milford; found with pre-
vious, same condition, same owner initials, it can be
honed and used as is; bottom:

http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t106b.jpg $95.00
WP48 18th century toted cornice plane with different 2 1/2" pro-
file; as found, little used, the wedge and offset tote are
birch, the 13" body beech, which has flat chamfers along the
normal edges, the same is done at toe and heel across the
top; early AxW initials cut in the toe, it cuts a bevel,
round, square, and small ogee of very pleasing proportions;
never altered or cleaned, uniquely shaped tote has a chip
off the horn, it's loose in its mortice; this is a very
nice example of New England planemaking; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t107.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t107a.jpg $290.00
WP49 Unused Primus smoothing plane (or doppelhobel, if you're
into linguistic accuracy) in its original box and with
instructions; beech stock with applied lignum sole, it
merges an old style wooden stock with modern adjustment
features; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t113.jpg $119.00
WP50 Pair of side rabbets by King&Co; free of alteration, owner
marks, one with some staining; top two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t119.jpg $145.00
WP51 26" jointer by D.R.Barton; razee pattern where the stock
behind the iron is diminished to make the plane lighter
and to allow easier working when the forearm can get in
the way; with lignum strike button, it's in better than
usual shape, there is some stable checking behind the
iron, a harmless corner splinter at the toe; 2 1/2" iron,
the plane can be used as is after honing; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t120.jpg $155.00
WP52 Very complex owner made molding plane; cuts 3/4" deep by
2 1/4" wide, the profile is very nice, a wide astragal,
cove, smaller astragal, cove; has owner/maker names, the
plane has been cleaned, four nail holes on the right side,
a throat was cut on the left side to help eject shavings;
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t121a.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t121.jpg $170.00
WP53 7/8" match planes by Sandusky Tool Co.; a very clean pair,
they can worker 3/4" to 1" thick stock to cut the popular
tongue and groove joint; little used, a bit dirty, solid
workers; bottom two:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t121.jpg $85.00
WP54 Nine hollow and round planes by L.&I.J.White of Buffalo;
always together, free of modification, dry surface, sound
workers; a #2R (strip added to the left side can easily
be removed), a pair of #4's, a pair of #8's, a pair of

as well as those made by larger manufacturers; as found,
free of damage, all original parts, it saw little use, a
previous owner filed a small 'channel' to either side of
the mouth, some guys did this collect the fine dust and
allow the plane to keep planing when set fine; a stupid
idea, but certainly not the first to appear on tools; top

MS77 Graduated set of three Starrett spring joint dividers with
knurled grip; as found, original lengths, some minor grunge

MS78 Great rosewood scraper with rare double profile; a pattern
of tool that is found frequently in New England, I suspect
these were used by gunstockers to shape the wood; a quality
that Norris would offer, if they made such a tool, they are
found in a variety of patterns, most commonly a single flat
sole, but rarely in a profile such as this one; cutting a
mirror image, left and right, of a 2" wide curvature, each
blade is secured with a brass casting that's secured to the
11 3/4" rosewood stock; in fine shape, showing normal signs
of use, it's in solid worker shape despite a no harm casting
flaw in the brass sole; graceful curvature to the grips,
it's a tool that must be seen in person to appreciate fully;

MS79 Record 077A bull nose rabbet plane; earlier production with
most of the original nickel plating, it was carefully used
and put back in the wooden box, which took the beating to
protect it; a well made plane, better than the Stanley #90,
the nose piece can be removed so it works as a chisel plane,
the original shims sets it for finer or coarser work; a
fine working example; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t66.jpg $140.00
MS80 Goodell-Pratt No.37 "Double Knife" spoke shave in original

loss; uncommon to find in the original box; bottom:

tree wood, not Sears wood; bottom right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t69.jpg $55.00
MS85 Unique cast iron shooting plane; well made at a time when
manufactured ones hadn't yet captured the market, it has
a nicely shaped grip made of wood, it's the pattern used
on Chaplin's shooting planes; as found, free of damage, in
need of a clean, good amount of mass to keep it on the wood,
the heel of the iron is bent, it's easy to straighten that;
16" long, like the Record T5 jack/shooting plane, the iron
isn't skewed; a sound worker awaits and at a price a good
bit less than the Stanley #51 fetches; top:

tool, one of Millers Falls best; top:

MS88 Millers Falls No.88 jointer gauge; another quality product
by this firm, it's a better, and more robust, design than
the Stanley #386; turned knob can be positioned on either
end of the casting, it quickly attaches to the plane's
casting with cam levers, it also can fit on smoothing planes,
something the #386 can't do; middle:

MS93 Different adjustable square and bevel; made by the IXL
Square Co. of Newark, NJ, it's also stamped with patents
allowed and pending; a much less common model, it came at
a time when countless stamped steel squares/bevels were

shape; top left:

maker, it appears to be F.Riter, the cutting is 3 1/2", it
may have been meant for one hand use; old handle looks to
be original, it's 17 1/2" long, and is loose in the eye so
it can be removed for storage; a sound worker and good
quality; top:

the most versatile of all auger patterns, they can bore at
corners, at an angle, directly on the work, a probably up-
side down; design to fit a common brace, finding them this
numerous is next to impossible; diameters from 5/16" to
1 3/16", some duplicates, different makers, many are by
Snell; all sound workers, three others are tossed in for
free as they have some pitting, one has had its diameter
filed to form teeth, like a modern hole saw's; bottom:

MS121 ca.1880 child's tool chest with great internal label; it's
by Phineas Smith of New York City, the label shows four
boys laboring with the tools offered, none of the tools
are present; in solid, as found condition, it looks to
be made of walnut, it has cast bails as handles on both
ends; top has a split across its length, I suspect that
caused the top moldings to loosen, they were removed,
re-nailed, and then sanded a bit to make them smooth with
the top; lock has no key; it's in solid condition and

of woodworking planes, this model has the decorative
lever cap screw that also serves as a grip; as found, good
amount of original finish, it's the model without the
adjuster and was made at a time when block planes were like
cars, you could get a no frills Yugo version or a full frills
Rolls Royce; free of damage, some minor grunge, the iron is
a replacement, a Stanley Defiance one, which seems kinda
sorta appropriate given Bailey's and Stanley's tool fight
that erupted when this plane was made; bottom left:

they are forged, not cast, and saw little use, retaining
most of their original blue finish; firmly attached on
their wooden handles, longest is 9" across the forging;
they can inflict some serious damage to wood, and maybe
a limb, if you're not careful; look to be made ~25 years

workers; top two:

MS135 Mathieson 3/4" dovetailed rabbet with rosewood stuffing;
a very nice example, the iron is also stamped Mathieson,
the wedge still has the intense licorice-like aroma; good
patina that should be left as is to prevent rust, it saw
careful use, even the strike button the heel isn't munged;
no owner left his mark on it, which is quite unusual as
most owners couldn't resist the temptation to give their
infills a whack or two in manner not unlike a dog watering
a fire hydrant; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t104.jpg $290.00
MS136 A.J.Wilkinson 8" folding handle drawknife; a fine quality

it has all the tools bits that fit in the handle, one, the
disk that holds the circle cutting spurs, didn't make the
photo session; bottom:

MS148 New old stock Lie-Nielsen #71 router; cutters still in
their original wrapping, its fit with the adjustable
fence; out of stock, you can brace yourself for price
increases when another run is made (which may be awhile);
top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t113.jpg $225.00
MS149 Bridge City MS-2 miter square; never used, in its original
box, with inspection paper, it's early production made with
rosewood; ready to work; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t113.jpg $90.00
MS150 Bronze squirrel T-rabbet with rosewood wedge; a very nice
looking tool, it has a integral grip at the toe; well made
by a gifted tradesman, the sole is very slightly curved
toe to heel, the cutter is 1 5/8" wide; never cleaned or
abused, it has its owner/maker mark stamped in the side,
and was found with the shooting plane, MS85; top left:

MS151 Dixon No.71 circular stake anvil; in fine as found shape,
best quality, 2 1/4" diameter, the working face is very
slightly domed and is polished; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t114.jpg $95.00
MS152 Four smaller stake anvils, likely by Dixon as they were
found with the previous and other marked Dixon anvils; a
variety of patterns, all in fine shape, with polished
faces, the egg-shape one is 2 3/4"; bottom group:

MS153 Sargent No.22 Shaw's Patent jointer; Sargent's version
of the Bed Rock, it's a better design than the Stanley
product as the iron's set isn't changed when opening
and closing the mouth, Sargent's design forced Stanley
to redesign their Bed Rock line to allow frog adjustment
without removing the iron; as found, normal grunge, free
of damage, it will clean to be a fine worker; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t116.jpg $155.00
MS154 Sargent No.710 Auto Set smoothing plane; earlier production
without number embossed on the main casting nor stamped in
the iron; all original parts, as found, splinter off side
of tote's horn, it will clean well; top:

MS155 Unused Collins fireman's axe; 12" overall length, most of
the original red finish remains, an owner scratched his
initials in that; with ripping spike, normal grunge from
sitting, great quality, and with a handle it's guaranteed
to deliver a world of hurt to whatever crosses paths with
it; middle:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t117.jpg $110.00
MS156 5/8" mortice chisel with boxwood handle; the sash pattern,
it can mortice any work; little used, by Stormont, owner
name in handle, which is a bit askew from the forging; a
very uncommon width for this pattern; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t117.jpg $55.00
MS157 Large and well made T-shape reamer with turned handle; at
22" long, you might guess it's for larger/rougher work,
that it is, it's used to ream the female portion of
wooden pipes for water, etc.; in fine shape, this one
didn't perform the normal rough work of that trade, and
can still be used after a clean; most of these resemble
Uncle Milton's Ant Farm, being riddled with insect holes,
this one escaped that fate and is very solid, which makes
it quite rare:

MS158 Patternmaker made aluminum router with three throats;
embossed by its maker, "A.GETTY", it has two turned
aluminum knobs; a collar secures the 5/8" wide cutter
at one of the three throats; well made, 10" long, a
worker; top right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t122.jpg $85.00
MS159 Record No.772 miniature router; in the original box,
little used, it managed to develop some superficial rust
while sitting idle; a better design than the Stanley
#271 as the cutter can be swapped in its two positions
without having to remove the clamping screw; bottom
right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t122.jpg $70.00
MS160 Sargent No.61 closed throat router with original 1/4" and
1/2" cutters; does exactly what the earlier #71 1/2 does,
it has an endless screw that engages the cutters to set
them; in fine worker shape, most plating remains, and at
a cost less than the Stanley; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t123.jpg $110.00
MS161 Three narrower incannel gouges for coping/scribing; box-
wood handles, widths of 5/16", 3/8", and 5/8"; quality
Sheffield makers, Marples, Toga, and a retailer I can't
fully read; each can be honed and used as is; top right
three:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t123.jpg $120.00
MS162 3/4" framing chisel; as found, some superficial rust,
fine quality, I can't fully read the maker's mark as it's
partially covered with a rust bloom; good replacement
turned handle with steel hoop, the forging is 10 7/8"
long; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t123.jpg $55.00
MS163 Disston 22" D8 8pt crosscut; a clean worker from ca.WWII,
it's still sharp enough to use as is; an even patina, the
image failed to capture its true surface; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t124.jpg $125.00
MS164 Gunmetal Lancashire pattern shoulder plane; a unique
looking plane, nearly all were owner made, most are
rather primitive, this one is far from that, it's very
well made; with a finely made tote (walnut?) that's
curved in two directions, it fits the hand very well;
good patina, very lightly cleaned long ago, owner mark,
the plane is fit with a skewed iron so it can work
across the grain; a plane with real presence; left:

http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t125a.jpg $375.00
MS165 Norris No.15 annealed iron smoothing plane; an uncommon
model, with rosewood stuffing, and closed tote; cleaned,
normal knocks/scuffs, the parallel iron is a replacement,
a finer mouth can be had by a shim on the bed, or you
can leave it as is for a quality worker; roughly the size
and mass of a #4 1/2 smoothing plane, it fits the hand
comfortably; right:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/dec/t125.jpg $585.00
MS166 Log calipers by L.Sargent of Plymouth, NH; a finely made
tool, too nice for the normal rough and tough trade of
turning trees into wood, it has loads of brass and scales
to give it a very appealing appearance; stamped with the
maker's name as well as using New Hampshire scales where
1/4" of bark is allowed; in great as found condition,
never cleaned, the original finish has darkened, it still
carries the New Hampshire inspection disk; Sargent serial
numbered his output, this one is 2x6, where x is a 3 or 8
(I don't want to remove finish to read it); image suggests
it's bent over its 48" length, that's the camera's lens
doing that; a northern New England classic, other logging
regions never made such tools to the degree the New
Hampshire makers did:
