If you have questions about what the Stanley numbers are, you can
look the planes up on Blood&Gore:

Sometimes, emails to/from me are vectored to some cyber black
hole, never reaching their destination. I answer all emails, so if
you haven't heard from me, your/my email is likely having high tea
in said black hole, never to be heard from, so please try again.

Please email me prior to sending money so that you can be sure
the item is still up for grabs. Also, prices do not include shipping,
which is the amount that it takes to go from me to you via the US
Post Office.

This list goes out to many people, normally on the first Monday
of the month (unless otherwise noted above). So, if you see something
you want, it's the quickest finger on the trigger that wins the duel.

Some folks become upset that they miss out on a tool. I wish I had
lots of this stuff many times over so I can satisfy the demand, but
that is normally not the case. Some of it does have duplicates here,
and if so, I will state that in my reply to you.

Also, due to the nature of selling over the wires, tools are sold
on a first come, first serve basis. The first person to say "I'll
take it", gets it. I have to operate this way as some will take a
few days to get back to me with their interest in a particular item,
and it's unfair to keep others waiting who are willing to buy the
item immediately.

I reserve the right to correct typographical errors after the list
goes out. I rarely make them, but when I do they can be major ones.

If you're the kind of person who puts a straightedge to the sole of
a #40, to check it for flatness, or who tosses a plane on a scale to
weigh it against what it states in the Stanley catalogs, you'll need
to take your business elsewhere. I'll wish you luck finding perfection
in something that was never made, nor intended to be, perfect. You guys
know who you are, and it's best for both of us that our paths not cross.

Remember, you don't have to be a connoisseur (did I spell that
correctly) to shop here. You can be a wirehead, a metalhead, a zipper-
head, a propellerhead, a deadhead, a cokehead, or even a knuckle
dragging oaf, just like me, to shop here, as long as your dinero is
green.

Thanks for shopping, and remember that no letters or words were
injured when writing this list...

FEATURED TOOL OF THE MONTH
******** **** ** *** *****

FT1 Rare Chaplin's No.1 block plane; not what you're thinking,
this isn't the scaled down bench plane to a #1 size, it's
the goofy design with the sinuous tote and scalloped edges
of the main casting, the iron has a lower pitch than a
standard bench plane; as found, no damage, all original
parts, normal finish loss, it has the features of the
earlier Chaplins - nickel plating on the cast knob, tote,
adjuster, and lever cap, roughly five have survived; out
of the Inner Sanctum, and reluctantly being offered due
 to a Mustang:

original vial, the earliest show the most plating loss;

ST77 #605 1/4 Bed Rock junior jack plane; an early 1930's model,
with all original parts, as found, school identification
neatly stamped in small letters toward the heel; lateral
lever is a bit wobbly on the frog, some careful peening
of its pin will solve that; a decent example; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t127.jpg $590.00
ST78 Group of 20 modern cutters for the #66 beading tool; all
different profiles from the standard set Stanley supplied,
it makes your #66 much more versatile; unused, a small
batch of these were made in England some 15 years ago, no
more will be made; bottom right pile:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t127.jpg $110.00
ST79 Reproduction lever cap for the #1 smoothing plane; a very
good copy, it's nickel plated, for who knows what reason;
I've had this since last century, just discovering it in a
dark corner of the tool pit, it came from the massive pile
of stuff belonging to Dave Knight, a local toolie; Dave
was a patternmaker, he was also a hoarder; every tool he
bought he took apart and stored them in bushel tomato
boxes stacked floor to ceiling; a strange behavior, for
sure, a dangerous merging of a patternmaker's quest for
efficient storage and hoarding apparently was the cause
of this; I bought his entire basement full of stuff back
in the mid-1990's; thinking that I got it all, I was very
surprised when I received a call from his widow after he
went to tool heaven roughly 10 years ago; believing there
wouldn't be much to buy, I was speechless when treading
the familiar stairs to the basement - he filled it up
again!; this time, I had free range of places I hadn't seen
during the first clean-out; his garage and shed - loaded,
beneath his deck - loaded, an area of the basement that
was off limits during the first trip - loaded, but the real
shock was his swimming pool, which I thought was no longer
used due to the cover over it - loaded, he filled it up
with tomato boxes full of tools; a very strange situation
made even stranger as his lovely widow drew a line in the
hoard - the upstairs would remain tool-free and spotless,
and so it was every time I visited; the irony of ironies
here is that the fellow who helped me during round one of
the Dave Knight clean out is also a hoarder, but much
messier and dangerous (found loaded pistols in the piles),
his tools were featured over two years ago; it's said things
happen in threes, please do your part by buying stuff so
that I don't become victim number three of this terrible
tool tale; bottom left:

WOOD PLANES
**** ******

WP1 14" Addison Heald jack plane with his unique captive lever
cap and wood thumb screw; made by a very talented toolmaker
from Milford, NH, his output isn't common, but it does show
up around here as this list originates roughly 20 miles from
Milford; many novel ideas/designs were offered by Heald, his
stuff is very well made and can be found in a range of work
many of which is on this and future lists; as found and
 little used, single 1 3/8" wide iron, and a dry surface;
lever cap has a small check, it will make a fine worker;
top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t1.jpg $135.00
WP2 Toothing plane by Addison Heald; Heald managed to make
this unique among the common plane, a lignum strike button
is behind the 1 7/8" cutter, Heald made this one for
Wilkinson&Co of Boston; out of an old collection, with
some painted on inventory numbers that will quickly scrape
off; barely used, a quality worker; middle:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t1.jpg $85.00
WP3 1/2" dado plane by Addison Heald&Son; Heald's son, Daniel,
carried on the toolmaking business, he was as inventive as
his father, this design is unique among dado planes with a
cast thumb screw securing the nicker iron, which, on the
surface seems no big deal, but it is as the nicker iron
stays in place with the plane, and can't slip out like is
often the case with standard dado planes that are fit with
a wooden wedge; in fine worker shape, some minor staining
on toe and heel; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t1.jpg $90.00
WP4 Addison Heald razee smoothing plane with 2 3/8" double iron;
lignum strike button, the plane can be honed and used as is,
the sole has been trued, doing that opened the mouth, it's
fine for general smoothing but won't do well on tenacious
grains; made of beech; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t2.jpg $70.00
WP5 Addison Heald lignum razee smoothing plane; the Healds
like to use exotic woods - rosewood and lignum - for the
planes they made, this one is quite an uncommon form in
lignum; as found, showing normal signs of use, with knocks
and scuffs, it's fit with a 1 7/8" double iron and also
has a lignum strike button; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t2.jpg $385.00
WP6 Addison Heald cooper's plane, fit with Daniel Heald's
patented adjuster, it's a lignum combination croze and
howell; a great plane, probably one of the best a collector
of cooper's tools could hope to find, it's in great con-
dition; turned exotic wood knob, the plane performs the
two functions on the inside of the staves so that the head
can slip into those; the line you see on the fence is likely
from a chip in the planer that was used to thickness the
stock; top:

http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t3a.jpg $685.00
WP7 Heald topping plane with Daniel Heald's patented adjuster
for the cutter; used by coopers to plane the tops of
barrels to level them, this one is fit with a sliding fence
that's secured with brass thumb screws; a very uncommon
model; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t3.jpg $385.00
WP8 Toted screw arm plough plane with boxwood arms, nuts, and
washers; barely used, made by Greenfield Tool Co., it's
close to new condition with a minor splinter off the
fence where the dovetailed boxwood portion meets the
beech; can be used as is, owner mark, a fine worker for
cutting grooves; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t4.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t4a.jpg $175.00
WP9 Yankee plough plane in beech; the classic New England form,
it's professionally made, but with owner initials of "DG"
where the maker mark normally is; all original, broad
flat chamfers, rivets to secure the arms and skate, 9 3/4"
long, it's in sound condition, the fence's reference face
has a later steel face added after the wooden one chipped
long ago, this is a well know problem for these planes;
top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t8.jpg $120.00
WP10 Massive 18th century fruitwood 1 5/8" dado; 14"+ long,
broad flat chamfers, typical early tote pinned to the
body that also serves as an extension of the bed, extra
long wedge, early initials of "HP" at the maker's mark
area; in overall fine shape save for the nicker iron's
wedge, which has lost it's finial, it may have been
frightened by the overpowering size of the iron's wedge
and decided to split; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t8.jpg $135.00
WP11 R.Chaffin/Acton yellow birch croze; a very early plane
used by cooper's to cut the groove in barrels to accept
the heads; a very rare maker, who worked either side of
1800, it's remarkable it survived in such fine shape;
with owner mark; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t9.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t9a.jpg $385.00
WP12 Chamfer plane with sliding box (sole) to set the working
with of the cut; very well made by an owner, 5" long, as
found, owner mark, the box is secured in place with a
screw on the left cheek; never cleaned or abused; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t10.jpg $75.00
WP13 J.L.Cluff/Maker 10" block plane made of what looks to be
cocobolo; a rare maker that likely worked along the New
England coast, it's in great condition, and with a nice
grain pattern: bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t10.jpg $365.00
WP14 3/4" cove and astragal by M.Copeland; in good as found
condition, the perfect size for today's standard stock
thickness, it's a profile that has limitless uses:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t12.jpg $125.00
WP15 Odd profile that may be a part of a dust joint; early,
almost 10" long, it's from the Sleeper school but with
no maker or owner marks; definitely manufactured, barely
used, flat chamfers, never altered, it has a steeper than
usual pitch; a nice plane:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t13.jpg $145.00
WP16 Addison Heald reverse ogee and fillet; I don't believe
this plane was ever used, it's fit with a removable fence
so it can work farther away from the stock's edge when
another profile is worked adjacent to it; profile is 1"
wide and 5/8" deep; owner initial in heel:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t14.jpg $135.00
WP17 Odd C.Warren/Nashua broad reverse ogee and fillet; works
roughly 1 3/8" by 5/8", it's free of alteration; cleaned,
owner mark:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t15.jpg $110.00
WP18 Large quirk ogee by J.E.Child; cuts 2" wide by 7/8" deep,
it has good proportions for such a large profile; cleaned,
owner mark, free of alteration:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t16.jpg $115.00
WP19 Early double iron sash plane; slender 12" stock made of
beech with earlier style yellow birch tote, flat chamfers
from toe to heel; very well made, no owner or maker mark,
it cuts a simple bevel profile and the rabbet for the
glass simultaneously; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t17.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t17a.jpg $125.00
WP20 Pair of side rabbets by J.Kellogg/Amherst; barely used,
free of damage, much nicer than what's normally found;
bottom pair:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t17.jpg $145.00
WP21 Odd bead, broad fillet, and cove special purpose profile
by J.Bradford/Portland; in fine shape, little used, lightly
cleaned, it cuts roughly 1 1/4" width; almost looks like a
profile for a raised panel, it's a nice plane:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t18.jpg $185.00
WP22 3/4" by 1 1/4" quirk ogee and astragal of nice proportions;
a ca.1820 plane by Brown&Barnard, it also has a Warranted
stamp that I can't recall seeing on planes by this English
maker that exported much of their work to the US; in nice
shape, the heel shows bang marks from backing off the iron,
a blow too long on the heel caught the edge of the profile,
that got mashed a bit and can be put right in 1 minute with
sand paper:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t19.jpg $135.00
WP23 5/8" quirk ovolo, fillet, cove and astragal by S.Randall
of Albany; a nice profile that is crisp, the image suggests
the fillet is rounded, that's not the case; lightly cleaned,
owner mark, a whole lot going on in an uncommon size for
this profile:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t20.jpg $170.00
WP24 Another S.Randall/Albany plane, this a 1" bollection, the
common name for the astragal and cove; lightly cleaned,
free of modification, boxing at heel is a bit loose, owner
mark, a few inactive worm holes:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t21.jpg $120.00
WP25 7/8" quirk ogee and ogee by R.W.Hendrickson; a nice plane
that cuts 1 1/2" wide, with owner mark, lightly cleaned,

WP27 Rosewood toted moving fillister by Shiverick; a custom
order, it has all the features of the common beech model
save for no boxing on the shoulder, the wedge is boxwood;
never altered or messed with, whomever ordered this was a
top cabinetmaker who could afford such a plane; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t24.jpg $490.00
WP28 Wm.Woodward/Taunton 2" toted rabbet with double nickers;
what the Stanley #10 is but in wood and with nickers, it's
made to cut rabbets of any width (within its range), the
skewed iron allows that in any grain direction; in fine
shape, little used, some small nail holes in the sole when
a fence was added; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t25.jpg $110.00
WP29 Fine adjustable double iron sash plane with brass plating
and thumb screws; made by L.B.Bigelow, it cuts the standard
square ovolo profile, the plane can be adjusted when differ-
ent depth sash is needed; fully boxed soles, nicely cleaned,
in fine worker shape, two countersunk brass screws were
added later to assist keeping the plane's width constant
as needed; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t25.jpg $170.00
WP30 Fine rosewood and boxwood toted plough plane by Tucker&
Appleton; select rosewood is used for the stock and fence,
it has a lovely grain pattern, boxwood is used for the
arms, nuts, washers, wedge, and wear strip on the fence;
as nice as they come, good amount of original finish, owner
mark, ready for a collection of great planes:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t26.jpg
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t26a.jpg $590.00
WP31 Unused 5 1/2" boxwood smoothing plane by Addison Heald for
Wilkinson&Co. of Boston; this thing is flawless and has
a great even patina, the lignum strike button draws the
eye to focus on it to appreciate the perfect proportions;
one that will compliment a collection of #1 size planes;
top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t27.jpg $585.00
WP32 Pair of new old stock rule joint planes made by Addison
Heald for A.J.Wilkinson of Boston; sized for 5/8" thick
stock, Heald reconfigured the cove plane so that it can't
work off the stock and produce less accurate results, he
was always thinking of new and better ways to plane wood;
matching rule joint planes are tough to find and finding
them in this condition is extraordinary; bottom two:

http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t31a.jpg $335.00
WP33 Five shapely carriagemaker's rabbet planes each with bone
soles; lots of curves, two T-rabbets, good age, one missing
and iron, another with a metal wedge and tin plating on
both sides (likely to arrest a check); longest is about
8 1/2"; a nice group:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t32.jpg $285.00
WP34 C.Warren/Nashua moving fillister; the standard US pattern
for cutting rabbets in any grain direction, the nicker
scores the grain for a clean shoulder; adjustable fence
and stop set the size of the cut; a worker that's free of
modification, lightly cleaned; top left:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t35.jpg $110.00
WP35 Assembled pair of worker sash planes, a single iron sash
and a coping planes, they match fairly well, well enough
so you can use them to make sash; 18th century vintage,
the sash cuts the square ovolo and the rabbet simul-
taneously, it's made of beech and has early maker/owner
mark of "AM"; the coping plane is a rare thing, it's a
one piece that angles it properly for easy use, 5 3/4"
long, with early maker/owner initials of "HH"; both as
found and guaranteed to make sash just like it was ca.
1790; top right two:

http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t35a.jpg $255.00
WP36 18th century yellow birch ogee; has a Wrentham look about
it, a maker mark was stamped in the toe and was abraded off
long ago; cuts 3/4" and does it without spring, this one is
better off with those who can work such planes as they want
to walk off the edge, it takes practice to keep them on the
straight and narrow; a nice plane; bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t35.jpg http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t35b.jpg $120.00
WP37 18 1/2" razee fore plane made of what looks to be live oak;
the product of a coastal New England shipwright, such planes
can be found in all sorts of wood, often mixing them on each
plane, such is the case with this one but I can't identify
the species used for the closed tote; dusty from sitting in
a shop, a nice example that saw little use, double iron of
1 3/4" width, there's a chip forward of the mouth that can
be patched, it's well worth that effort as this is a nice
plane; top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t36.jpg $125.00
WP38 D.Copeland panel raiser; a nice example, in fine worker
shape, cuts the classic 1 3/4" wide panel; removable fence
when a profile is wanted adjacent to the bevel; skewed iron

WP41 Great N.Taber double iron toted sash plane; out of time
capsule, clear stamped, relieved wedges, early tote, it's

planes such as this that fascinate New England-made planes;
top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t38.jpg $390.00
WP42 A.Smith 1/8" dado; another great plane and in a very un-
common width, it saw barely any use; made of beech, it has
Smith's characteristic large thumb screw to secure the ex-
ternal depth stop; another one out of a time capsule;
bottom:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t38.jpg $225.00
WP43 Another time capsule plane, this an A.Smith/Rehoboth 13/16"
quirk ovolo and astragal with two color lignum boxing; a
very odd size, Smith stamped the heel "6/8*1/16", this had
to be a custom order; showing no real signs of use, the
boxing has cracks, something common with lignum boxing,
Smith's stuff is second to none, his work is greatly under-
appreciated:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t39.jpg $285.00
WP44 I.Sleeper 7/8" quirk ogee and astragal; in fine shape, nice

fit with a double iron that's skewed so it can work all
grain directions; dusty from sitting in a shop, minor
wear on sole, a couple screw holes when a fence was added,
a small chip forward of the mouth won't hinder its use,
it's not like you're gonna enter this in a plane shaving
contest, you cut rabbets with it; *top:
http://www.supertool.com/forsale/nov/t46.jpg $145.00

WP50 Matching graduated set of eight slipped beads by Griffiths
Norwich; very uncommon to find all slipped, normally it's

allows the stop to be removed so the bead can be worked
deeper into the wood when adjacent profiles are later
worked with another molding plane or hollows&rounds; as
found, never cleaned, dust from sitting in a shop, same
owner mark; diameters of 3/16", 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8",

of them matching:

MS166 Unique set of wooden adjustable wrenches from an archive
of Greenfield Tap & Die; their "Little Giant" wrench that
proved to be a very popular design, these were that com-
pany's models first made when they were sizing them up to
determine whether they'd manufacture them, which they did
quite well; two of the wrenches have tags on them, the
third had a tag, but that parted company long ago; the
shortest, at 10", has a tag naming the wrench and being
made by A.B.Carll, a known patentee in the wrench world;
the longest, at 18", states it was received from A.B.Carll
on July 27, 1921; each a perfect wooden model of the Little
Giant, and fully functional, there isn't another set like
this, they are ready for a serious collection of wrenches
and they add another datum point to the manufacturing
history of America during its glory days; found in Green-
field, there are piles more of this recently discovered
archive that's still at the source, it's a matter of time
before the owner decides to part with more of it; left

MS167 Another model from Greenfield Tap & Die, this for a brace
to work in obstructed applications where the drive portion
fits into a common brace and then turns, via internal gear,
the bit/auger/tap; found with the previous item, it's rather
crude in comparison, but it gets the point across; with its
original tag, it was in that company's General Stores Dept.,
the writing was crossed off, it was sent to the company by
someone named Janson of Cortland, NY, he probably was seek-
ing someone to manufacture it; the company filed is 1/31/29
and labeled it a threader; in sound shape, I haven't tried
to operate it; 7" long, not another like it, I suspect it
never went into production; right:
